Re: Pajero Lock Up Kit - Gauging Interest
Hi Marius

Would it not be feasible to use the brake light switch to deactivate the lock-up. I have never come to a stop in an automatic without using the brake. All you need to do is re-activate with the switch when you need it again. I don't know if you could incorporate this using current relays or by adding an additional relay.

Just a thought

The problem is that taking your foot off the brake to pull away will stall the car with a jerk.

Also, the auto gearbox map isn't suited to having it locked in gear as it will always change up too soon leaving it at low rpm with extra vibration due to the lack of a heavy flywheel.

Also : If you head down a long downhill using the lock up to aid engine braking, if you touch the brake the lock up disengages and you have to use extra braking whereas if you use it locked up with a little braking the slowing of the vehicle is better and easier on the brakes.

Any amount of functionality can be done but this adds extra complexity. I feel on and off at your discretion is better and flicking a switch isn't too much hard work hey? ;)

Hi Marius
You are correct. It is not hard work flicking the switch. It is the domkrag that is my problem :D . Once you get into the habit it would become natural. Makes it more of a one man car and more personal. I like it that way. My fuel consumption has vastly improved since I changed my injectors. I just need to do the intercooler and then I will be ready for your kit. I am currently at 13.4 l per 100k so it can only get better.

I have filled up tonight so will be able to gauge consumption with the following mods

Intake fan thingy removed
Pump advance
Fresh service with delo 400 and new air filter
Wastegate spacer
Lockup kit
Autobox flush
Free flow exhaust

If this doesn't improve my economy I'm making peace with it's consumption.

Re: Pajero Lock Up Kit - Gauging Interest
I have just received my lock-up kit from Marius now and cannot wait to work through the instructions - six pages, nogal - and to start fitting it tomorrow or this weekend.

I am most impressed with the quality and completeness of the kit, including cable ties, connectors and a clamp, and wish to thank him on the forum for such excellent work and service. I am sure that he will be on call when and if I strike a problem. Thanks, Marius. You are an asset to the club.

And for others to drool, I am posting a picture....

Thanks for the compliment Gert. You are the first guinea pig so to speak, other than myself so give me a call if you have any hassles. I'm sure you'll be fine though.

I spend hours and hours going through the intricacies of the wiring and the instructions to try and make it as complete as possible and to make sure it's right.

You need to do some research to check if your wiring is the same as the diesel which I suspect it is.

removing the center console you will find a wiring arnass that comes from a big white connector and runs past the transfer lever to the back.

You need to find the yellow wire with a red trace and then do the following test to see if it is the correct wire.

If it is I can sell you a kit
