Vibration advise ?
Ok, I need some advice as I am at the point where I want to sell my Gen3, and I only have it for 8 mnths now.
She has a vibration, not speed related, it comes and goes but lately it stays put, it is not wheel balance, feels like one of those massaging chairs, sometimes after driving 20km on the highway and stopping my legs tingle due to the vibration.
So how do I isolate this, I dont have the funds to try out new parts hoping to solve it, and just hope it is not the rear drive shaft or that stupid R5000 alu mounting bush-bracket thing for the rear diff.
But still, how do I 'see' or test if a bush or rubber is shot ? How do I know if the rear driveshaft has plyy or any other issue ?
Any advise pls. ?

Re: Vibration advise ?
Hi
I had a similar problem it was not wheel balancing, i took it to a steering and suspension for a free check, and there were worn front suspension parts viz.,idler arm, tie-rod ends, lower ball joints and so forth. It was soon after i collected it from the dealer and returned it for the repairs [approx R5k].
I not sure if this helps.

Re: Vibration advise ?
Is the vibration engine speed related??

I was getting a reverberation vibration linked to my engine rev's, approx 2500RPM or 120KPH - very irritating. It turned out that I had a couple of issues. I had a heat sheild that was loose on the exhaust and was rattleing and the exhaust was touching another mounted on the chassis- so I tightned the one up and bent the other out of the way. My gearbox crossmember had a few loose bolts that needed tightening up - check the rubber mounts for wear as well. I also removed my mass damper off my gearbox (big heavy block of metal bolted near the drive shaft - there is one on the rear diff as well), and that seem sto have solved the problems.

You can also look at your rubber engine mountings, gearbox mountings as well as if they are worn or have a tear in them you might pick up vibrations. Get someone to rev the car (while in park with the handbrake on) until you feel the vibration and lie under the Pajero to see if you can see what it causing the problem.

Re: Vibration advise ?
Nick, no it is not engine or vehicle speed related.
When I shift into 'N' it is still there.
Sometimes when i free-wheel at slow speed towards a speedbump it turns into a definite slow wobble-vibration type feeling.

Re: Vibration advise ?
Have you checked your wheel bearings/hubs?? A bearing on it way out can give an intermitant problem vibration? Dual mass fly wheel, do you have a manual or an auto??

Vibration is genrally caused by something rotating that is out of balance, ie, tyres, drive shaft, even an engine/gearbox not insulated from chassis via failed rubber mountings... Even shifting into N will still transfer engine vibrations into the chassis as it is still idleling.

Vibration advise ?

Maybe the RHD inner shaft bearing as that shaft always turns with the wheels.

Take your car to any reputable tyre centre. They will check most of those issues FREE of charge. Depending on what they say and show you, you can either look further or have it repaired etc

Re: Vibration advise ?
Ok my small egg

I also have this vibration you talk about For a long time I believed it is a tyre problem Almost like a tyre wit a bubble on the thread My paj stood for 2 years (probably a repo) t
That made me think that i have square spots from standing that long
Today we did a better look at the front suspension It looks like the upper shock mount (left bad right starting) are dry and warn Even broken in areas giving the shock room to move laterally ie twisting the spring I battle to get the alignment sorted This explain why as soon as they set the alignment the spring moves and adjust the alignment Like my mate said "the wheels are walking"
My 2006 D1D has 147000 on he clock

Now my question to the technically advantage members Is what i said above correct I plan to change the shocks to the new Gabriels mention elsewhere At the same time change the upper shock mounts and the upper and lower control arm bushes while everything is open
Through the pads in for good measure It is costly but as you said I am gatvol for the vibration

Question the control arm bushes Do the come separate or as a unit with the bushes pressed on
