GEN3 Major electrical problems
After trying to sell my Pajero for 6 months and lots of empty promises, I reverted to taken it to a second hand car dealer. This dealer is well known in Nelspruit and came with good references. After 3 months on their lot it was still not sold and I retrieved the vehicle only to find to my horror the condition of the vehicle. I know have the following MAJOR electrical problems. Any idea's? Are they related? Fuses/Relays or ECU?
  1. Alternator does not charge (the light is not on on the instrument panel)
  2. ABS light & handbrake light are on - Brakes are very "hard" when you press the pedal (Booster/Pump?/ABS not working?)
  3. Aircon/fan does not work
  4. Lights: Neither park/dimm nor bright works (brake light and indicators work).
  5. Wipers only work at slow speed
  6. Radio is dead (as is display)
  7. Gearbox in Limp mode (Neutral flashing)
  8. 4x4 SelectDrive lights not working
  9. Central locking not working

Any IDEAS???
Re: GEN3 Major electrical problems
Have your battery checked out. I had similar symptoms a few years back after not using the pajero for 2 weeks. Although it started fine, the main battery was on its way out - replaced it and all was back to normal.

"Have your battery checked out"
I agree.

If that fails - check for damage to wires due to rats.

On second thoughts: I think rats in your wire harness is my first choice.

Update...

I have founf one fuse in the dashboard blown and one in the wrong place... Now lughts are working, abs light are of and seems to be working... Aircon switching but fan do not work... Cannot test drive
Because battery flat after testing

Found alternator fuse blown and has been replaced with 100amp instead of 120amp... Need to find this fuse in Moz vefore further testing and solving WHY these fuses has blown and been replaced by the secondhand dealer

Re: GEN3 Major electrical problems
OK Just to update, I got everything working.

I think the culprit is the radio... I had an aftermarket GPS/MEdiaplayer installed (as well as handsfree kit) and removed it and put back the orignal. I think somewhere in the handsfree kit is a short. But I can't be 100% sure... will continue to test.

Replaced about 3 fuses and the 120A Fuseable Link in the engine compartment. Everything seems fine now.

EXCEPT for the gearbox which still goes in limp mode... Here is the scenario:
I start the Pajero, Put it in Drive. Nothing happens. After about 10s and revving a bit the gearbox "kicks" in. The selecting 3rd with hard kick and then Neutral light starts flashing. Switch of. Start again. Goed in Drive fine and works 100%.

Any ideas?
