Hi all
I was doing the fuel gauge rheostat clean as per another post because my fuel gauge was not working and I found this box under the right rear seat carpet. It is well wired into the vehicles wiring loom(looks OEM) , I first thought is was a tracking device, but Google did not help and could not find anything on the service manual.
Any ideas what it could be?

What makes you think it is not a tracking device?
According to this website the company Omnigo was involved in vehicle tracking as well!

My vote is oldish tracker unit or maybe alarm/imobiliser

Now all Nick needs to do is drop them an email / give them a call to ask what an MU22 is.

Nick, if you are not using this device then you probably want to disconnect it as it will be an unnecessary drain on your battery.
Okay, spoke to omnigo and they don't know what it is, so I sent them a picture of it and they will send it on to the r.&d dept to see if someone knows?
I also spoke to mitsubishi paarden island and the workshop foreman does not know what it is, he says it's isnt OEM part. My guess is a tracker or immobiliser. It looks really well wired to the loom, no splices or anything... Will wait to hear from omnigo.

Okay so omnigo got hold of me and said it is "possibly" a tracking device they made for one their customers a very long time ago. The said I could unplug and leave it... I will do so when I have time this weekend and revert then, thanks for all the tips!

Out of interest, does anyone know where a tracking device would be located on a Gen3 Pajero? Apparently my vehicle has one and I suspect it is draining the battery so would like to remove it.
Thanks

Okay so had some time this weekend to try and remove the box. I stripped the Seats and lifted the carpet and unplugged the box, the Pajero did not want to start and started when plugged in again... I also opened up the wiring loom and saw the wires are well spliced in, there is also an antenna wire running up into the roof liner.
So it seems to be a tracking device that can deactivate the ignition, I thought that was illegal? When it is unplugged the central locking still works so it's not linked to that either. I will follow up with the manufacturer and see who fitted it, and how to remove safely so it does not leave me stranded when it eventually packs up one day.
