I used Alan Black.
A look around their workshop shows just how much they do in terms of diesel pump repair and injector refurbishment.
On running vehicles they first do a rolling road dyno test. Then use that to inform them of what they need to do.
On my vehicle they determined that they would only need to replace the injectors with refurbished units.

At the end they do a comparative dyno test, so you can see what was achieved.

There was no pressure to do unnecessary work or go to unnecessary expense (like fit new injectors or rework a perfectly functional pump).

I guess you also have to factor in cost of flatbed to Springs vs. Randburg.

I would say just check how much the Randburg crowd do on site vs. how much they send out.

Good luck - hope it gets sorted without too many shekels changing hands.
Re: Snoopy (Pajero 3.2Did) died on me today!
Hi Cats. I had my pump and injectors done at AB about 2 years ago. Eric took me on a tour of the workshop. Most impressed. At that time they were the only guys in country with the necessary machinery and tools to do the pump and injector service, and ALL Bosch agents sent their units there for service and calibration. At the time Eric mentioned that the Test bench / Calibration unit was in excess of R 1.5 million. Very nice if someone else was willing to invest in the infrastructure. But at +- R 20 000 a pop for a AB service maybe not a bad investment. Your comments on your onsite inspection is much anticipated. (Yes Cats, we all know you will be there in person!)

You know me too well!! . Yes I will be there to inspect for myself and will report back, but currently I am still waiting for the flatbed to arrive, "sometime this morning". Not a good start.

Cats
If you read all the stories about injectors and pumps, only one name features, Alan Black. I was there this morning to refurbish my Pajero's injectors for the first time on 257000 km's. I am impressed, these guys know what they do.
Bradley, I believe knows a Pajero better than his wife and has been with the company 20 years and Corne 14 years. They allow you to stand there watching and asking questions. This is the type of setup I like. My Pajero's injectors was delivering approx. 75% pressure, apparently you need 250 bar and mine was on 186.
My Pajero is nippy again, no more hitting the pedal and waiting for the power.

Martinbo, if I may ask how much was the reburshment? My Pajero is currently on 207,000km and I have the same delay in power when pulling off. How long did it take?

There goes my theory that the injectors on the DiD are more expensive to maintain than the plugs and cambelt on my beast. I need to spend that amount (at least) every 90k km on my petrol job.

You diesel blokes must just see it as a service item and keep those injectors in good shape.

These Pajeros serve us with the highest level of reliabilty we can ever hope for, we owe them some attention in return.

Some revelation hey Roelf!
Now factor in the cost of your cam belts and ignition wires ....

I don't know how this happens to you guys.

mimmo wrote:Good question, I had my pump and injectors tested by Alan Black at 650,000 km for the first time and they apparently are within specifications. The paj does not smoke and the fuel consumption is the same as when it was new,
approx 10.5 to 11 liters per 100km. I beleive you should only check your injectors if engine smokes excessively or if there is loss of power , excessive fuel consumption. You may find that the problem may be due to one injector only if
your mileage is less than 200,000km.

Perhaps this modern fuel isn't what it is hyped up to be and 2SO may make a difference.
