Propshaft on Gen 2, 3 liter, 1995 model
Anyone that could advise me please.
I had a screeching sound under pajero and then a bad vibration started. After inspection i noticed that there are a lot of play where proshaft enter gearbox.
In onspection of universal joints i also noticed that there are certainly to much play om the universal joints.

My question:
Is it easy to fix this problem?
I assume that I would need to replace a busch or somethong where propshaft enters the gearbix as wel as oilseal.
I know for certain that i would have to replace both Universal joints on propshaft.
Where could I do balancing of propshaft just to make shure that its in good order.

Any help would be much apreciated
Thanks

Hi. Take it to a propshaft centre. Normally one in every biggish town. They specialise in this and have the equipment to balance it properly. Just double check your bolts as well. I found that I had 8mm bolts in 12mm holes. By replacing the bolts with 12mm reduced the play drastically. Also check the diameter of the yoke where it push into the diff flange. It must stick tight into the diff flange by about 5 mm but with no play sideways. This is necessary to centralise the joint between driveshaft and diff.

Ian, I have raised suspension meaning the prop yolk (female spline) doesn't push as far onto the gearbox spline (male).
So a vibration had been steadily worsening.
I had the prop shaft lengthened by 20 mm; vibration gone.
Interesting, even with the vibration, the oil seal never leaked a drop.
And the universals were ok; after 450k!
I can't figure the purpose of that teflon bush A, but had it renewed anyway

Ian.
Propshaft specialist is the answer as Gerhard Boshoff indicated. The screeching sound was most probably a dry universal and the vibration followed the rapid deteriorating universals.
