Problems? What do you mean? Which model are you looking at buying, we can't really advise if we don't know what you are looking at.DID wrote:Dagsê almal.

If its reliability is whats holding you back jump in. They are extremely reliable. Forums in general concentrate problems, with people often only posting if they have an issue.
You would also see that often the problems posted are 10-15 year old cars, with R280k + km on them. Look at the high mileage thread for some perspective.
Also go and Read the Disco TDV6 threads for comparison
That said many pajero's are getting on in the years, a Gen 2 is at least 16 years old Gen 3 at least 10, even many gen 4 are 5+ year sold.
Check that its in good nic and have a good service history.
Which ones have you been looking at ?

DID,
Welkom. Hy is net so dors soos net soos enige ander 3,8/4.0 lit V6 - Toyota, Isuzu, Subie, ens.

Hi.
I have had the pleasure of having and or owning a number of 4x4 vehicles in my time. They have been, Pajero GLS - 2 no, Toyota Prado and Landcruiser 100, Nissian Patrol and Landrover Discovery series 2. Everyone of them had there bad quirks. Everyone at sometime or another, gave trouble. My vehicles were all used up in Africa in many different regions. Why do I drive a Pajero, because it goes well, it is comfortable and it is reliable, and my wife enjoys it. The only downside that I have found, not enough dealers around in the RSA, but I have made a plan for the services as it is still under warranty, 60000 km just gone. Buy one and enjoy.

Hi DID
I bought a new DID SWB in 2014 and have had my fair share of problems . Injectors were replaced under warranty true to injection timing issues and resultant pinging noises . The change solved the problem , but now my vehicle is using oil 1 ltr / 10 000 km's , Mitsubishi have recognized the consumption but have indicated that only if the consumption reaches 1 ltr / 1000 km's then they will do something about it . Vehicle rattles internally like hell , but can say it is a good 4 x 4 . So from personal experience would not recommend a gen 4 (new) Pajero - for the price there is better out there and not so long in the tooth , with a potential better approach to warranty issues by parent company . This forum is a good indication of Mitsubishi reliability and am speaking from a lousy personal experience . In short would recommend 2nd hand if you are hell bent on a Mitsubishi .

Not a single manufacturer will even consider addressing oil usage of 1L/10 000km.
Hi Roelf
I agree with you 100% - but when that manufacturer agrees that the oil consumption is not normal and that they will not entertain the issue unless the consumption goes over 1 ltr / 1000 km's , then I am afraid that is a brand to stay clear of . I'm sure you will agree that when your engine is using 10 liters between services , then your engine is pretty much done its time - a manufacturer should have a policy that it does not get to this point . Every Pajero owner regardless of km's covered reported that their Pajero was using no oil between services when I popped the question on Facebook page of the owners club . The agents agreed that my consumption is not normal , but are uncertain as to where the problem lies . This consumption has been there since new , and when not a normal running phenomenon should be a warranty issue .
