Pajero 3.8 GLS V6 2008 Fuel Consumption
Good day

I have just done a service on my car by a reputable service outlet.

Mileage 200 000

Replaced the following:

*Sparkplugs
*Air filter
*Oil filter
*Oil 15W-40
*Coolant
*Brake fluid
*New front discs and Brake pads
*V-belt
*Fuel filter in the tank(was never replaced)

All the parts was from Mitsubishi

Now the sad story-the fuel consumption is way higher then before the service, diagnostics show nothing, the service was done on Tuesday and while i was working all the time and only have Sundays off i am thinking of driving on the open road for a few kilometers and do a comparison.

Checked for fuel leaks also

Any pointers

Thank you

Good morning.

The 3.8 is not exactly known for it's fuel consumption. I have had 10 liters/100 km's, but I have also had 16/18 liters round town.
On mine its all down to how i drive it. i am fortunate to have a company car and only use mine on the weekends.
Did you have any idea of what the previous consumption was before the "service" ? Maybe subconsciously you where hoping for a better result, after the service, a bit like cleaning a car and polishing it, it "feels" better.

Just for interest When i bought my bus with 147000 on the clock I have done 4 oil changes in 8000 kms, and all the other body fluids. The clock is sitting on 157000 and I did an oil change with Shell Ultra Full Synthetic 5w-40. Simply because the motor has known issues with noisy followers. This thing purrs like a kitten, scary part is in a car park people walking in front of the car just don't hear it. Next 'service" will be at 160 000 mark. And I use what ever Autozone or Midas is the closest, with regards to consumables. And before everyone jumps on the high horse, my Gen 2 with the 3.6 V6 motor did over 600 000 kms before it was "liberated". Stock standard. No fancy Mitsubishi filters or oils.

I have read the other forums regarding the oil to use and quite frankly most is BS. i went to the dealer here in Rivonia and they told what they use. they are as follows,

Castrol 15w-40 Vectron.
Shell helix Ultra 5w-40 Full Synthetic.
Castrol Edge Professional 3.

Oil change and filter is far cheaper than a rebuild. Stick to the recommended service intervals. I hope you find what the problem is.

This time next week, light the fires and kick the tyres, down to the coast for nearly 3 weeks.
Enjoy Christmas and time with your families. Life is short, especially as I'm on the downward slope in my twilight years and remember, we grow old because we forget how to play, me, I'm still a big kid.

I am one with the force, and the force is with me.

Did you check oxygen sensor? I once experienced some sort of change in fuel consumption behaviour on my Colt, had tried a lot of things and i was out of option when in the end a mechanic pointed out the oxygen sensor to be the problem. After changing it l never experienced the fault again
