I am reaching out here as I just want to get some feedback to see if anyone else have has the same issue.
My 2015 Pajero Sport 2.5 - Goes Into Limp mode every now and them - Usually happens on an uphill.
The vehicle has a new turbo fitted about 1000km ago. It pops up the following error codes when this happens -
U1120 - This code refers to comms between the ECU and the Gearbox unit ( according to the scan tool )
P1298 - IDM Failure ( according to the scan tool )
So herewith my question - Its an intermittent fault. Happens one in a while.
I have tried to find the Gear Box Control unit - All I could find was the control unit situated on the left hand side of the passenger footwell - HAs two plugs with millions of wires at the bottom.
I just want to check the plugs where it goes in and out of the gearbox control unit to the ECU - to ensure the plugs connect well and perhaps clean the contact - as a quick resort.
ANyone else had this issue and manage to resolve it ? Or is there another point inbetween I am missing ?

I may be wrong, but this occurrence only started since the turbo replacement?
I seem to think this is more air flow and coolant temperatures related. I would check out the air intake sensor in the air cleaner box first.
I would then check the transmission oil cooler, intercooler and radiator for cleanliness and leaks. This symptom is indicative of a leaking intercooler pipe or cracked intercooler. Maybe just maybe they did not tighten a clamp on the boosts side of the turbo.
Lastly check all vacuum pipes on the turbo.

Did the issue ever get fixed? Just my 2 cent here but my father's Isuzu had a similar issue (also after a new turbo install). Because the turbo was replaced 1,000 km ago it seems likely to be related.
Mechanics often have to disconnect electrical connectors, earth points, or vacuum/boost lines around the back of the engine and transmission bellhousing. A chafed wire, loose plug, or poor ground near the turbo/gearbox harness can drop CAN-bus communication (That is what that U1120 code refers to usually) under load or heat (like when hitting an uphill and the gearbox wants to downshift).
Your instinct to check the connections is the best first port of call for troubleshooting this. I have heard that some Pajero Sport models often have issues with the sensors on their Autoboxes over-heating and going faulty because of it - the new turbo might be causing this excess heat? But i would still check all the connectors on the transmission sensors first - they are on top and on the side of the transmission bellhousing, then i'd check the transmission's main connector plug (also on side of the bellhousing). Finally it might be worth checking the main wiring harness loom where it runs behind the cylinder head, i know sometimes there are clips that break loose and causes the wires to run close to the turbo/exhaust downpipe. Clear the error codes and monitor it. I hope you were able to sort this out.
