When we lived in Australia.. I remember seeing a lot of minis and Land Rovers with white tops... Last week at our local pub, the Platte Bar, I saw a new Toyota FJ Cruiser with the same colour scheme as my Gen 1.. but it had a white top.. so Last night.. I went out carefully covered the trim below the rain gutters and copied it onto mine.

Took pictures, a bit shaded as it was morning, of the paint job I did on the roof last night... i think I may do away with the silver, leave the black as is, and paint the silver areas desert khaki...

I was so impressed with my own handiwork, I might go out and paint all the silver areas (as the paint is wearing badly) to a desert khaki... thoughts?

I have seen some great work done with rattle can but it involved a clear coat, wet sand and buffing but most importantly lots and lots of careful prepping.

If you are not tooo concerned about the final finish but the main look instead for a wheeling rig, then go for it. Each to his own and if you like it then nobody should stand in your way.

Khaki is nice, but it is always better to keep to the original colour, then you do not have to paint the inside of door frames, etc.

But then, looking at your previous projects, you don't seem to be intimidated by the size of a project!

Whatever you do, I'm sure it will look good.

I also like kind of a "rough" and utilitarian look. I've never found the Gen 1 "beautiful," just rugged and appealing to a man's sensibilities.
