Re: Gen 3 A/T slipping?
In the same vein. When I got my car I had the auto box drained and refilled at Mitspro. After that, and only sometimes when the car has not been used for a day or so, when I put it in gear, there is a hesitation of a few seconds before the car stsrts to respond, as if the oil has been lying at the bottom and when it starts to get picked up and works through, the car stars to move.

I have not yet checked the level, but trust that Mitspro has done the job properly!
Re: Gen 3 A/T slipping?
update on RedCats surging part 1:

So i went by Mitspro this morning and described the issues. He looked at the fluid level, smelled it, listened etc and declared the tranmission fit for service.

So I took him for a drive at his request and he quickly listed one of the following possible causes for the wavy revving. Diesel filter may be the problem, or some valve in the fuel system, a pully on the traction control system, possibly the SQL for the injectors must be reset, or dirt diesel.

He changed the filter - wasn't that! Diesel didn't seem dirty or have water in it :?

So now i'm going into a dealer that has the latest diagnostic equipment for a BK (Mitspro equipment hasn't arrived yet) this afternoon and hope to God that they can tell me what is going on. driving my car for more than 20 minutes is like catching a ride on a refugee laiden row boat... makes me a bit nervous and a bit more 'sea-sick'!

stay tuned!

Re: Gen 3 A/T slipping?
Good luck and keep us posted.

This is very different to my issue and a year later mine is still the same, and I do also have the noticeable lag when starting from cold and waiting for reverse to start moving the car..

RedCat update part 2:
Went to Mitsubishi East Rand in the afternoon. They, like Freek, are adament its not the ATF or TC. Must be a fuel supply problem. or electronics! So they disconnected the cruise control. It wasn't that!

Going in again tomorrow for the following two tests:
1) The actual diesel - if its this i'm going to jump for joy, but also sh!t myself out for having not started there in the first place.
2) The supply valve in the fueling system...

I wait with baited breath!

Should i move this issue to another part of the forum? Simon?
Re: Gen 3 A/T slipping?
RedCat Update Part 3:

RESOLUTION! :D :D :D

So it was the Supply Control Valve in the fuel pump! No idea what caused it but I'm putting it down to rubbish diesel from Haartebeesport Engen. just a few kilos after filling up the trouble started and the Mechanic at Mistubishi east rand mentioned that poor quality diesel could be cause.

Anyway, the valve started sticking and lead to the surging and lagging. The motor is starved, then pumps more fuel which opens the valve, then it returns to normal operating parameters and the whole problems starts again.

The Valve was replaced at a cost of R2590 which i was going to pay until SA Warranty were pressured. This is another story! They refused to cover as their 'telephone mechanic' didn't even know what the valve is, so said they would only cover the fuel pump. They had to literally be taught about what makes up a fuel pump and that it would be in their financial interest to replace this small component instead of the whole flipping pump etc etc. Anyway, they came to the party.

Problem is solved! I'm thrilled as i was having serious doubts about my purchase.

The problem was apparently nothing to do with Mitspro service. I'd like to thank Freek for his advice which helped point us in the right direction. He didn't get the job purely since Mitsubishi East Rand helped get the work done for nothing. They really worked hard, beyond my normal experience with mainstream dealerships.

Should these few posts be moved to a more appropriate thread?

Gen 3 A/T slipping?
Hi RedCat

Does your issue remain resolved?

Your symptoms read word for word like my Sport's behavior.
The weird over-revving at changes and so on.
Re: Gen 3 A/T slipping?
Hi Titan,

Yes, the problem has not returned. My truck is running beautifully, and after a good few tanks of diesel, the consumption has returned to normal range. I noticed that with the new supply control valve my fuel efficiency was negatively affected, by about 20 - 25% for about 2,000kms. but it's runing really well now. Back to about 11Lr per 100km in combined conditions. ;)

If you're near the East Rand and your car is under warranty, i recommend speaking with Gary Collins at Mitsubishi East Rand, and his mechanic was Marius. Very thorough problem solvers!
Re: Gen 3 A/T slipping?
Can you describe the symptoms it had? I would like see if mine is 100%. Havent had a auto before so Im not sure how it must be.

Just want to find out as I get about 7km/l on consumption

Thanks!
Will give your contacts a call!!

I'm waiting for my 80000km service (2 weeks)when ATF will be changed. Want to be sure correct spec is used as its suspected that panel shop that replaced radiator after kudu strike did not use correct ATF and/or flush completely. (@ 7000km)

Re: Gen 3 A/T slipping?
Hello ouens,

Sorry but We are currently in the Kruger park and something strange is happening and hope you can help.

We went in at Malelane gate and all was well, echo4 in tow. 2 days later drove up to Orpen then it started. Surging about 200-300 rpm up then down and black smoke every time the revs go up. First thought the revs were hunting because of slow speeds 30-40 km/h. Tried tip tronic 3rd but the same.

We drove from Orpen north to Letaba with trailer and the whole day reVving up down. If I plant the accelarator big plumes of smoke then smoke goes away. Then it ran a bit better. It feels like when you drive with cruise control and car accelarates by itself on hills etc but all the time. Every now and then I would hear a krrrrr sound in the engine then I leave the accelarator and it goes away.

Phoned Freek at Mitspro and he says that altitude can cause the smoking and revving. And it should be ok. We had similar problem with black smoke when at the coast in eater cape.

Should I be worried as we are still on the road till the 8th of July?
Thanks
Riku
