Luckily it's only th right side. On the left the Inner Cv bolts directly to the diff.

I have just ordered the bearing for about a R100 - It's coming from JHB so should have it by Tuesday.

The dust cover is on back order so that wasn't an option.

I'll take the parts out and see what it looks like (difficult to judge by the diagrams) and see if I can make a plan with the dust ingress. It shouldn't be too bad as it's already a bit protected by the bash plate I fitted.

i think the bigger problem is water ingress.

Great info on our Pajero's on this site.

My Shogun Gen 1 with auto hubs and manual shift, 2.5 tdi has a fault. "Wheel Lock" dash indicator light has stopped working. Have interchanged dash bulbs, checked wiring where possible. Seems the Pulse Generator on the transfer case and or a relay could be the cause. Would greatly appreciate a wiring diagramme or advise on this.

Secondly, where can I find those exploded parts views you have in this site.?

Morning all

I'm don't have to much knowledge on the workings of CV joints etc...so I have a few questions.

Problem: When turning sharp right and reversing, cluck cluck cluck.
Questions:
Is it correct that the main suspect is the CV?
Outer or inner CV?
Estimate cost to replace?
Where in Pretoria is the best place to replace CVs?
I'm also looking at brake pad replacement....good idea to do them at the same time?

Easy one first: replacing the pads is an easy DIY job, if you are even reasonably comfortable with spanners.

Yes, the 'cluck-cluck' is most probably outer CV.
Can be done by DIY means, but is a real PITA.
Replacing the entire shaft is easier than splitting it into components and re-assembling with new parts.

I consider the money spent at a CV-workshop worth it! :)

On Saturday, I drive past a CV shop...decided to stop and get a quote.

R1150/side, everything included.

Dankie,

What else could it be?
All the symptoms point to CV joints.

What does the quote include?
New parts? What brand names?
CV, Boot, clips etc all included?
Labour.
Warranty?

Got some extra quotes. Still waiting for one or two calls, but here is the update so far.

Option 1
Brand: Solid
Price: R1150/side for outer CV, incl all clips etc.
Warranty: 12 Months

Option 2
Brand: GSP
Price: R1653/side, incl all clips etc.
Warranty: 12 Months

Option 3
Brand: Solid
Price: Estimate R1500 - R1700/side (want to measure first)
Warranty: 12 Months

Still doing some reading and searching....but I can't find to much about CV brands on the net.

Stealers quote almost R8k for the outer cv and shaft. Doesn't want to tell me the make.

Anybody know what brand the OEM is?

Also...spoke to freek at mitspro. He said he has never replaced a cv on a pejero before...they don't break....so what on earth else can it be then? Ball joint? Something to do with the tire odd ends maybe?

If the 'cluck-cluck' is in sync with the rotating wheel, I would bet a few dollars that is the CV, especially if it is at full turn position only.

Worn ball joints and tie rod ends don't go 'cluck-cluck'. They cause 'slack' in the steering system.

Let somebody drive slowly while you walk / crawl next to the wheel, to try and isolate the sound.
