Andre,
Car is fixed. Looks like new. Scratches obtained while pulling a Fortuner from deep sand in the Richtersveld earlier this year are also now gone :D
Re: Burnt Pajero (underneath)
Hi Guys,
I really regret that I missed your posts!
Not having seen Roelf's or Anton's replies, I accepted a salvage value for my car and took it to Mitspro Motors in Centurion to have it repaired. That was 5 months ago....
Should have written it off.
Now looking for the equivalent 2005-2007 3.2 Di-D GLS LWB. I'll strip the burnt cars of its extras (R50,000!) and scrap the rest.
Let me know if you want anything as everything above floor level is in good condition
Regards
Dave
Re: Burnt Pajero (underneath)
I might be wrong but I think that's the car standing at mistspro. They should know what happened.

Hi Bostokkelos,
The car is in fact standing at Mitspro - and has been for 5 months. I get the feeling that maybe all is not well!

We are really sorry about your misfortune.

If the insurer wants to write your car off, then the damage must be substantial.
If the propshaft was damaged during recovery, one has to wonder if the auto gearbox didn't pick up damage as well.

Getting all the electronics repaired, and reliable, could turn out to be an endless job.

Maybe taking the money and shopping for a similar Pajero isn't the worst outcome for your misfortune.
Good luck and please keep us posted.

Welcome here.

As far as your predicament is concerned, I agree with Roelf here.

Fire inevitably causes wider damage, eg. to paintwork and other parts of the car, and maybe you will regret later if you didn't let it go now. And electrical work comes with a high probability of "human errors" - especially on high-tech cars like yours.

I appreciate that it is difficult to let go if you know your engine's condition, but I suggest you look around - there are great ones out in the market, and you may be surprised about what you gcan get for the money - and do not allow the insurance to pay you a lessor settlement - they'll still be able to get some money back for the "wreck", contrary to one that "parked around a tree".

Please keep us posted!

Regards,
Anton
