Apologies for delay in following up on this, but thanks to all who responded.

In the end I went with a new shaft, clip and seal fitted by Mitsu. It was under advice and time pressure to get the vehicle back that I made that decision.

I did, however, ask if I could photograph the two shafts and clips next to each other before they fitted the new one, considering they had told me it was the revised version (the one that apparently doesnt fit the original drive shafts). I was denied this oppotunity. The shaft was fitted and I havent had problems since.

The question still rolling around in my head is why I was not allowed to photograph MY orginal shaft and MY new shaft next to each other to compared the differences? And why others have been told that drive-shafts need to be replaced to take the revised companion shaft, when my "revised" one was fitted with no mention of this?

Either way its fixed. At least now I know for the right side decides to pop.
New additions to the bush toolkit - Rubber mallet and 500ml diff oil.

Happy driving!
