Welcome to the club, Aslam!

I hope that you will be replacing your Pajero with another one when you sell?
CATS wrote:What model is your Pajero if I may ask? The reason for my question is that from the front bumper it seems to be a post 2004 model(round fog lamps), but from the rims I would say pre 2004(16inch instead on 17inch), or do I have my facts wrong here? I don't know the SWB that well, so this might relate to the SWB only, but those rims only came out on pre2004 Pajero LWB GLS in SA(90% sure).
The SA spec Pajeros only had the rims on Aslam's car until late 2002/early 2003.

2003 was a transition year, so there are some strange spec variations (e.g. some with rear diff lock, some with traction control, some with two airbags, some with four airbags). Aslam, what does yours have?

The 2003 Pajeros had the newer design bumpers, fog lamps and tail lamp clusters, but still had 16" rims, although of a different design to the ones on Aslam's car. The 17" rims arrived in 2004.

Hi Gerrit :)

I am indeed remaining in the Paj stable ;)

My Paj has a "Slip Differential" Diff lock (Is this correct terminology maestro?) and 2 airbags in front and 2 on the sides

Now you have me confused, Aslam ;) .

The Gen 3 came with three rear diff options (although not all were available on SA spec vehicles):
1) Open rear diff
2) Hybrid Torsen rear diff (Torsen limited slip diff with viscous coupler to add preload)
3) Mechanically lockable Torsen rear diff.

If you have option 3, you will have a "RD Lock" button on the center console. If you have option 1 and you have traction control, you will have a "VSC Off" button on the center console. If you have option 2, you will not have a related button.

Only options 1 and 3 were available on SA spec vehicles. Option 3 (Rear diff lock) was offered on the SWB GLS from launch in 2000 until somewhere in 2003. Option 1 (Open rear diff) became standard with the introduction of traction control in 2004.

By the way, all Gen 3s with the Super Select transfer case also have a lockable viscous limited slip center diff (controlled by the little secondary gear lever), so don't confuse this with the rear diff.

Hi Gerrit

Apologies for the confusion. Let me try and shed some light:
I do have an "Active Stability Control" swith located next to the aerial switch that can be swithced off, therefor it is option 1, i.e. Open Rear Diff. (Sorry about the reference to the Limited Slip Diff at the rear - I was told that from the Mitsubishi Dealer in Paarden EIland)

Hope this clears up this matter, as I have certainly learnt something from this exercise, thanks

Regards

Thanks Aslam.
That makes a lot of sense. The electronic stability/traction control system is usually found in conjunction with the four airbags (vehicles with rear diff locks have only two airbags). It means that your Paj is a fairly typical late 2003/ early 2004 SA spec vehicle... except that it seems to have the wrong style of rims.
