I inherited the vehicle from my late father. I am sure he replaced the shocks right after he bought the vehicle new (2001) as he was not happy with the OE shocks. I cannot see a brand name on them. I removed one of the rear shocks to test and it seems like new, so I figured the front ones should be ok. Not sure if it is oil or gas shock. If I compress the shock by hand, they return to full length slowly, so might be oil shocks. Why would a front shock make a clunk noise when turning? As far as I understand the angle does not change when the wheel is turned. What shocks do you recommend? Monroe?

I solved the noise issue. It was the 4 bolts holding the no.2 crossmember to the front diff assembly. They were not loose. I re-torqued them to 128MN as per the workshop manual. After 5 days the noise was back. I now torqued them about 140NM and so far noise is gone. Beats me how these bolts can make such a noise when under torqued.

Is it possible to put a photo up of those bolts for future reference. Having to overtorque them seem a bit worrying though. Maybe they are only at the end of an out of spec movement from somewhere else, resulting in the noise
