I dunno about the lights and engine temp, but the uphill noise whilst towing bugs me no end.
Ive discussed this a few times but no solution, also no luck at Mits they say all looks great. The issue is widely discussed on the Aussie club site.
If you find the cause Id love to know

Hi There
I've got a 3.2 DiD lwb, did exactly the same coming from the lowveld on sunday afternoon while climbing from Milly,s to Belfast, was doing about 140 km/h(not towing). Made the same noise as if something is flappimg in the wind, made the noise for about 10 secs and not again, and noise was in 5th gear only.
I,ve got my own workshop and connected the diagnostic tool, no error codes on transmission or engine. Gearbox oaks say that they cannot hear or feel something wrong in box. Don,t know what to do now cause this is a very expensive box to do.
My rear diff has got a humming noise but don,t think it can be the diff causing that terrible noise.
Any help would be appraciated.
Regards

See my thread on the Exhaust manifold.
Remove the cover on the manifold to see if there are any cracks or leaks from the manifold. Had a similar noise going uphill when towing, temp went to 3/4.
Now sorted.
