This is especially true in rough and rocky terrain, where the D/L keeps the wheels turning all the time regardless of how erratic the throttle application is. With the T/C the drive “disengages” if you do not keep a steady foot on the gas pedal. Very difficult if you are bouncing around! As to the luxuries, if you are just going to use it in the bush, go for the GLX. You won’t feel so sorry for it and there is a lot less to break. (Cheaper too) If you are doing long trips on road to get there with just a bit of bush bashing, the GLS is fantastic, top sound system, leather, cruise control and nice aircon!
you just need some technique to drive the TC in rough terrain... jam your foot in the corner to ensure that the throttle remains at the same level through the obstacle.

Other on the forum have even suggested using your left foot to brake should you need to slow down during the obstacle.

While I agree that DL is probably easier in this type of scenario, if using this car for both every day and off-road/overland, you will need it less than 1% of the time. (in fact I've only needed it on obstacle courses / training sessions).

You are looking at a Pajero which means you are in a good place and both will perform fine in my opinion. I have the older Gen3 GLS which has D/L only and love it, yes I have had to use it quite a few times in tricky situations but would say you are good either way. Perhaps driving technique may differ slightly between the 2, both should get you there on most obstacles.

Here is a video Marius posted some time ago about the TC in action on the Gen3, I was impressed with TC and thought my D/L Gen 3 would do the same route or line on most cases, just nice to see in action with TC. GLS is more luxurious than GLX which does count for quite a bit IMHO, the cruise control is fantastic on the long hauls.

Over and above the D/L and T/C, the GLS has more luxsuries that the GLX: climate control, speed control, sun roof, leather seats etc.

Cloyd.
My 2006 GLX has climate control. :)

sbotes,

A last word. I still recommend the GLS with T/C and all the extras. Keep in mind that if you should buy the GLX, it will be virtually impossible to get all the luxuries added. However, should you decide to buy the GLS a rear diff with D/L (from a scrapped GLX)can be installed without any trouble.

Pending where you buy the diff and how good you are when bargaining, the diff should cost you less that R5000,00. One of our other mmbers - Harras - did the same on his Pajero and for less money. I had to replace both diffs to get the ratios correct and I paid R4500,00. This price included the Pajero air pump that one needs to activate the lock mechanism. It took me about half a day to change both diffs. All the work is within the skills of a normal owner with normal tools.

Thanks everyone for your answers. The hunt now begins for a GLS it seems. Will probably ask some more questions as I start comparing vehicles.
