Gert,

Maybe we should speak before you start modifying your Pajero. When touring I carry a second spare wheel behind the existing wheel. I have been on many trips - including down Van Zyls Pass with the second spare in place and to date my rear door works like it originally did. I also designed and made my own drawer system, my own extra fuel tanks and water tanks. For a double battery system I can recommend the person who installed mine (it is NOT one of the better known makes) abut at approx 50% of the cost it is worth wile.

Hi Cloyd,

I'm already making the drawer system, it will take four ammo crates and my 80-litre Engel freezer but I must remove the back row seats. I then place my 60 lt water tank in the valley behind the front seats and the drawer system fits in against the tank
I wanted to fit the spare behind the existing one,I had the mounting plate made but then guys told me that I'll damage my back door hinges because of the extra weight, that put some doubt's in my head now I looking at a swing-arm mounted but if you say it works then it's fine( how did you fit your extra spare onto the existing one.
What I would appreciate is the extra fuel tank idea, I think the only place where that could be installed would be the if the storage pan under the carpet is remove but then again the exhaust must be modified and to fit that big box somewhere else. Please advice
All the other mod's already done i.e
Dual battery system
Free Flow SS system
Air helpers
Chip
Build in compressor
One thing I forgot to ask, Did you fit support strips on the inside of the roof for your loadbars?

Gert,

One question: Why ammo crates? At the price per crate is it really worth wile? I am a bit "dof" and can not understand the ammo crates if the so called milk crates are available at 25% the price of an ammo crate.

For the spare wheel I made a bracket the fits over the existing mounting bracket holes and is placed behind the first spare. The first spare keeps it in place. The first spare bolts to the normal studs. There is an extension bar welded to this bracket and the second spare rests onto of this bar and a separate flat rectangular iron pulls the wheel against the first spare by means of a long bolt. Remember that when you make a carrier you must cater for a normally inflated wheel and if the unforeseen should happen and you get a flat, it must also cater for a wheel that is not inflated!

For the roof rack: I did not make no changes to the roof or added extra load spreaders. The only change to the roof was to drill extra holes for the additional pillars. I used silicon between the roof and the pillars and not the standard Pajero gaskets to prevent water leaks.

Hi Cloyd,

The ammo crates that I mentioned is the crate with four clips that holds the lid down, I think thats what they called, I had them and used them all a long they work for me.

Stronger roofrack with 60 lt Pioneer fuel tank, gravity feed versus extra tank, fuel pump and mods to piping and how often do you really need that extra fuel, I've done a number of trips and I never seem to run out of fuel but yes there is always a first time. Yes I know that you change your centre of gravity when you have fuel on the roofrack but then you drive accordingly
