some claim that the sensor can be replaced in situ.
I have worked on my pump and don't see how they got access. I suppose removing the intake manifold may give extra access but that in itself is a couple of hours work for someone who hasn't done it before.

Dont worry i had the same problem ,i bought 2 fuelpump timing sensors throught CBF Motors (Imperial group) @R350 odd each fitted them and problem solved.Allan black charged me R700 each.I was also told my fuelpump needs to be serviced BULLS@#t!. My Pajero has 305000km on the clock and fuelpump still going strong.
Try that its better that R20.000.

Pump rebuilt now, car runs like a dream. Cause of failure was the head scored due to water in the diesel. Tried new speed sensors, throttle valve assembly and other things before sending pump away. When the pump fails internally there might not be any fault codes.
Thanks for the info. I had the speed sensors replaced last week - unfortunately no difference. Will have pump refurbished asap. What was the cost? Pump refurb? Labour at Mitsubishi agents? And how long was your vehicle in the workshop? The Paardeneiland workshop tells me it can take more tha 2 weeks!

My apologies for hijacking the post, but this thread is the only one I find relevant.
My 2003 DID has sprung a deisel leak at the engine. I parked it at the mechanic this morning and received a call, that the problem is coming from the pump leaking a handful of diesel within seconds. He is optemistic that it might just be an o-ring or something. Does anyone have any advise on what else might cause the leak?

I am not a diesel expert so I can't want to give you an "expert opinion". But I had extensive tests done yesterday - and the verdict is final: pump must be refurbished - all pump readings way out of spec. And regarding the O-ring - only available from Japan. Have ordered it (together with a few other ex-Japan washers for injectors etc.) - and have been told I must be prepared to wait 21 working days... Not too expensive though - about R100 for that O-ring.
Anyone know where I can order a complete new injector pump for my 2004 3.2 DiD - at less than R25 000 - which is what I have been quoted for an Allan Black pump refurb (worst case scenario)? And where can I source new injectors at a good price? (been quoted R2788 x 4 for new ones...)
Bottom line: car will be repaired and then sold with agent's guarantee.
Anyone know of a 2008-2010 3.2 SWB with low km, at a good price - I'm your cash buyer!

Had similar problem with mine.Fault code was fuelpump.Over 140Km/h,accelerate,limp mode.Took to Allan at ANG,cleaned some sensors,vacuum pipe ect.Got car back yesterday,washed,vacuumed and a bill of just over R500.Car runs like a dream again.Pleaseure dealing with them.

I received my car back from the mechanic today. Fortunatley he could fix the pump 
. Apparently, and I am no mechanic, the plunger hit the seal (o ring) or somethiing and damaged it. Therefore the leak also some bolts were sheared off which have been replaced with stronger ones. The car is driving better than before, but I will test it this weekend at Spitskoppe.
