What is the intended use of the vehicle?

For corrugated gravel you need soft tyres and soft(ish) shocks (but mostly soft tyres! ).

For heavy loads on bad roads, you need a stiffer shock.

True "offroad" shocks, that can eg damp a heavy vehicle ramping an obstacle, will most probably be very uncomfortable under "normal" driving conditions.

I fitted Bilstein shocks to my Gen1, because I consider them to be the best compromise between on-road (95%+ of the time), and the occasional off-road excursion.

That direction does make more sense, to fit something that is a good compromise between on- and off road. I don't go offroading on a regular basis but when I do I need something that won't let me down. Also, because of the SWB, I can get away without any serious lift from shocks/spacers/coils because of the better angles.

That seems a bit steep for shocks and install only - but then rate of exchange will not have helped pricing.

Many people claim that the OEM shocks give them best life, best ride and at best price.

I have EFS shocks and coils on my LWB to stop the tail dragging on the middelmannetjies when loaded for touring. They have performed well, no failures - but the ride is certainly harsher than OEM.

Oh dear, no!

All I know about Cape Town is that there is a large hill obstructing the flat's sea view, and funny people live there (they support the wrong teams! )

I must admit, the mountain does spoil the view a bit but luckily I live in the Stellenbosch winelands!

I've emailed the guys at Mikem to see if they can help me out. Maybe they have someone in the Cape that can help me otherwise I'll have to buy a set from them and courier it down...

Got the quote from 4x4 Mega world in town.
