It will be better to replace the boot. Even though the nick isnt big, if the grease can get out, road grime can get in and that will eventually destroy the cv

Nope. Wheel bearings growl at you
Have had to replace both my rears and they actually have a vibrating / growling or rumbling type of noise.
I also have the chi chi chi noise. Have mentally blocked it out. Have spent many hours trying to find it. Mine is intermittent and seems to come from the plate that acts as a barrier between the disc / drum arrangement and the inside of the underside of the car (if that makes sense)

Yes, replace the CV boot. Dust will work it's way into the cover and change the grease to grinding paste!
There is an aftermarket boot that you can fit without removing the shafts as it has a seem along the length of the boot. Think Midas?
If a light application of brakes stops the chi chi it is probably the brake pads / shoes. And probably caused by the pistons/callipers sticking a bit. Apply some calliper spray and see if that works. If it does you can change the chi chi to a Cha Cha!

Hello. Just some long overdue feedback. I replaced my tyres in mid Jan and this immediately resolved the chi chi sound and 130km/h vibration issues.
I also had the CV boot replaced and was advised to replace the the whole CV joint. I insisted on the old CV joint. And IMHO it was normal wear marks on the CV. Will post some photos and ask for opinions.

Check your prop shaft cv joints to. If those boots get damaged that is an expensive repair. I had one go on my car and serviced the other and it cost me 3500 excl labour to have one built up as dealer only sell complete prop with cvs and is over 11k
