Update:

Dropped off my Paj with Haydn in Pmb yesterday.

A quick drive around the block with some braking and aggressive acceleration highlighted the knocking. His one train of thought was brake calipers that may be binding.

Anyway, we will see what he finds when he gets underneath during the week.

I recall that Transkei Cowboy had a knock which he took a long time to find.
(This was many years ago).

Eventually it was found to be the diameter of the bolt holding the shocks in place being a fraction to small.

Worth investigating?

Ok, so Haydn got back to me the other evening.

His verdict is that the Control Arm (Wishbones)mounting bushes are worn.

I understand that Mitsu no longer sells just the bushes, they sell the whole figgin Control arm at some stupid price.

If anyone reading this, that has gone through the same hassle or can tell me where to get a set of bushes, it would be much appreciated.

I had new rubber bushes pressed into the existing control arms. It was done by a suspension shop in Nelspruit.

Roelf, are you happy with the results and did the suspension shop supply the bushes ?

Most of the replacements that I have found are poly bushes which I have heard can give a harsher ride.

I would appreciate the name of the company you got the bushes from. Haydn here is Pmb will be able to fit them to my car.

Thanks

I was happy.
Company is called N4 Suspension in Nelspruit.
They stock a whole range of rubber bushes, which they then press into the control arm. They did my upper front and rear trailing arms as well as 4 new Monroe shocks. The total bill was just over 10k.

I had the very same sounding knock develop last year. At the same time my solenoids on the 4x4 system starting failing and the vehicle would engage 4h when I came to a standstill. Took the vehicle to various experts with no luck on the knock being solved.. I drove through a huge storm a few weeks later and the thorough flushing of the undercarriage solved both problems instantly. Seems it was dust/dirt that was the culprit in my case. The knock has not since returned and was a permanent feature for a few weeks at every stop, pull away and sharp turn the car made.

Check the "caliper guide bolts" - Not sure if it is the correct wording.
The 2 bolts that the caliper "Move" on
Mine did the same thing.
Remove the bolts one at a time and lube/grease them
Tighten as per normal and the problem was gone for me.
Maybe worth a try?
