They say is better to put car in 4H if going around corners as it will force the front wheel that's turning to run slower to give the opposite wheel to run faster (feel must stable) and out of the bend on straight will disengage. If in 2H you will feel that you losing the car with wheels screaming.

Im sure that wouldn't work with my car. Sometimes when shifting from 2H to 4H the front wheel green lights flash for quite a while before engaging, I would be around the corner by the time 4H has kicked in.

Plus, when suddenly coming across a 'hazard' ie oil slick, corner with loose sand or wet tar, I want to be in 4H, not deal with changing into 4H at the last minute.

Good day guys

I went on a fishing trip on Saturday, and after reading this post I decided to shift my 2005 Pajero into 4H, when towing I am one of the guys that does not like speed and the road we took we were not allowed to go over 100km/h.

Around 80km the centre diff light on the dashboard started flashing, I immediately shifted it back to 2H. After a while I decided to pull over as the light did not stop flashing, I checked under the car, no signs of any oil leaks, as usual. I turned the car of for a while, started it again and the light was of, back to normal, I did not use the 4H again for the trip though.

Any comments or advice will be valued please.

Regards

Luiperd, I cant help you but there is definitely a problem. With 4H, only the 4 green lights should be on.

Luiperd,
Can you confirm that all four tyres are identical and have similar wear on them.

When i still had the Gen1 with SuperSelect transfer, I always used 4H when travelling on gravel roads.
The difference is so pronounced, that once you get used to it, you immediately feel 'something is wrong' when not engaging 4H on gravel.

On surfaced roads, I very seldom used 4H.

Hi Roelf, I have Khumo KL71 tyres on my Pajero with about 30000km on it, its been rotated front to back and back to front every 10000km so I guess they should be similar in size still.

Thanks Luiperd.
I never used any of my Pajeros in 4H on dry tar for long stretches. So I guess I'm not really qualified to contribute.

Drive my gen 3 in 2h almost all the time unless the roads are flooding with rain.. then 4h is there just as an extra level of safety.. however in dry conditions I feel the paj understeers a lot.. it's not dangerous but definately there..on gravel it's 4h and traction off for a bit of drift [WHITE SMILING FACE] it's what works for me

I Use 2H all the time except when the road is wet on highways or when I am driving through sharp curves (N4 Schoemanskloef portion). I have not noticed any significant increase in fuel consumption, but I would think it does a little bit. I will confirm later.
