I had to put some seriously big and ugly stickers on Swart Skaap for the Fundi

I started on the process the get insurance sorted and quotations from panelbeaters after some IDIOT bumped my Pajero left front fender last night outside a friend's townhouse and then drove off without a trace! I added a bigger premium on my insurance as I like to keep the premium low, and now I need to pay extra for some other twit's driver training!

I am SERIOUSLY peeved off

but........ my SWB still looks like a Lada Niva! I have not seen any other Gen2's that looks like mine!
At least with the sticker in the back window it will take some of the mistery out of what it is

Crashed it into a Toyota Corolla... My fault, first accident I cause during 25 years of driving. No injuries, mangled the rear door and fender on the Corolla pretty good and broke my bumper corner.



Original spares are notoriously expensive up here, the best tactic before calling the dealer for a price quote is to be prepared to laugh at the price, otherwise it gets your blood boiling. For about half the price the dealer wanted for just the plastic corner, I bought a second hand bumper from a breaker. The "new" bumper comes complete with the spots that I didn't have and the end pieces for the fender flares, that I didn't have either. It has also been trimmed to fit bigger tires, which I hadn't gotten around to on mine. Further the mountings for the top center plastic cover had broken on mine and I hadn't gotten around to fixing them. They are whole on the new one. Just have to paint it, but I have paint left over from painting the fender flares. Also there is some slight damage to the left corner piece, the paint is scratched which doesn't matter, but also the metal behind it is bent. Looks like the best approach will be to use the metal bumper corner from my old one. I even think I got the sensor for the thermometer, that was missing from my truck.



So I'm considering it an upgrade, makes me feel better about spending the money on it.

Pity about the smash, but it leaves you the opportunity to "upgrade", which makes the smash a little "softer".

I like the spots in the bumper. There aren't many of them in South Africa. I think they are usefull when driving in fog or snow.

I had to do it on every car I ever owned. Still gotta do the gen3 but that will wait till month end when I can replace the broken radio with a frontloader - funded by my vodacom upgrade! Woop woop!

The trick (to halve the time taken) is to tie a draw wire to the end of the antenna cable when you remove the old antenna.
This is then used to pull the new cable through to the radio.
QED.

Trying to thread it from the hole in the body to the back of the radio by any other means is a real PITA.

Well I see not much movement here but here is my story,
over the last year spreaded because of costing I have done the following:
Serviced and cleaned all calipers with new seals and brake pads. New brakepads all round, Renewed brakefluid,transfer box and auto box serviced, Replaced front wheel bearings, Cv joints remanufactured, Replaced front diff lock switch on diff, Replaced auto mode switch,
Renewed Starter, Renewed alternator, Renewed all front ball joints and tie rod ends, Replaced front left lower control arm, Replaced thswitches on gearbox, New cam belt, New thermostat, New main waterpie in V, New Cranck seals, New Plugs, Dyno ,chip and freeflow xhaust, All new origanal shocks, Fixed some wiring main harness, New whelsh plugs, Oils ,brakefluid, antifreeze etc.
STILL TO DO:
Rear wheel bearings, Rear suspension links and rubbers, All new tension pulleys, New rear coil springs,New waterpump, New oil pump, Maybe some lifters depending if new suggested oil will do the job, All new door rubbers, Second hand or new dash insert as I can not see the auto mode switch on the display, Fix the flashing 4x4 lights,
WISHING:
Iron Man Suspension, Long range tank, Roof rack, New tyres , Duel battery charge system, whinch.
Time period is long because I do it myself to save some costs and I work from a manual step by step.
