Re: Gen4 Dash Rattle - Statement from Mitsu SA
Good afternoon everyone, quick update:

I have been keeping a record of dash fixes, specifically the brackets, since we started.
To date we have installed at least 76 sets of brackets. I have even sent the bracket drawing to a guy in Adelaide, South Australia, and he is going to attempt to install them himself.
The last installation I did was a 2016 model, and what was very strange, was how many of those little white clips were missing from the radio facia.

If anyone else wants it done, it is R800 per installation, it takes about 90min and the price includes the cable ties and any other rattle fixes that we know about. I normally do it from home but am willing to travel if it is close (i.e. northern Joburg). We have received some very positive reviews from a few of the guys, which is encouraging, as we get reminded that it actually works. The intention is not to waste anybody's time and money, it is good to know that Pajero owners feel proud to own their choice of 4x4 once again after experiencing the "shake" on corrugated roads.
Contact myself (Gauteng), JohnG (Bloem) or IanH (Cape Town) if you want it done.
Have a lekker weekend :)

Re: Gen4 Dash Rattle - Statement from Mitsu SA
Hi Kurt. Back from Mabuasehube. We took the cutline on the way in. It was shocking. I am convinced that the dash would have sustained damage/come loose if you had not done your conversion. It performed really well.
I have one concern though. How long will the cable ties last before they get brittle and break? I ask as cable ties on my trailer had to be replaced before the trip. I happened to touch one and it shattered. Further investigation revealed that they had all become brittle and broke when touched. I take it is due to heat, it is parked under cover so I think sun damage could be ruled out.

Thanks for the feedback Plod. About the cable ties, I'm really not sure how long they will last and I'm pretty sure varying conditions will cause different deterioration rates. Having said that the ties are inside the dash so they probably won't be that exposed to the atmosphere. It will be interesting to hear from the first client who has had it done and experiences a broken cable tie.

Kurt,my cable ties are the first ever installed :D
I have not had any issues with my ties and will gladly strip my dash again and give feedback to their condition. Also between me and Kurt,if for some reason the ties do break we will gladly assist to redo at no cost.
Also remember the ties literally just hold the dash edge down and the dash does not have any real weight or force at that end so there is very little stress on the cable tie.
The way i initially tested the area the cable ties were fastened was by using a thin nylon.
I ran it through the slot near the window and made it long enough to hold in my hand.On a bad road i pulled the nylon tight to see what the effect would be and can remember not feeling any real tension coming from the nylon in my hand.Hence i decided that the cable tie around the crossmember would work perfect.

I think the monocoque chassis also has to do a lot with rattles in the car
Around the boot area,if you open those small compartments on the sides and stick your hand in you will notice the plastic casing in the boot in many places is very close to the body.On bad roads i have no doubt that these plastics knock against the body making for most of the rattles in that area.
Fixable with some decent thick adhesive foam

Hi JohnG

I too have been telling all the dash fixes I have done so far that if the cable ties were to ever fail or break, I would open up and replace for free.

IanH.

Hey Kurt, would you be able to help me out with a dash fix? My 2008 Gen 4 isn't too bad, but it has a few small annoying squeaks and rattles? Brian
