I stripped the back door down to clean all the mechanisms. Sometimes the door wouldn't open and that's the last thing one needs if you're desperate to get access to your fridge.
Made the mistake of letting my daughter "help". I am now missing a bolt

I polished the black bumpers with Hollt's "black back" product. (It's actually called something else, but you know what I mean).
I works very well and I even used it on the inside of the doors (hard plastic parts). I was amazed at the results.
I await to see if it attracts more dust than before.

Hi Simon,
I sit with the same problem, and its a major hassle, does a simple cleaning work?
any issues I should be aware of? (I dont have a daughter, so that should not be a problem)
I would appreciate any advise on this.

It's pretty straightforward to give this lot a good clean, it just takes time.
I'm now writing the steps down from my head so forgive me if they are a bit "out"
1) Remove the inside door handle
2) lift the little flap on the inside door latch and remove the screw
3) remove the upper brake light surround and the light.
4) remove the upper door trim. Do this gently so you don't damage any clips
5) remove the tool kit (4 screws)
6) remove the lower door trim by gently pulling at the edges working round the edges. A plastic ruler allows you to lever these out without breaking the clip holders in the trim.
7) You will then expose the plastic door liner. If the edge of the liner is in good condition I would recommend cutting it to get access to the mechanism, rather than trying to peel from the edges. This way it can be resealed with the silver reinforced tape.
8) Unscrew the inner door latch (2 screws)
9) Unscrew the motor (2 screws on the inside of the door) - use a socket, not a screwdriver
10) Unscrew the catch in the edge of the door (3 screws)
11) This will allow everything to fall free, except where connected to the rear door lock. Carefully lever the yellow clasp apart with a small screwdriver. The 3 pushrods will need to be unclipped from the motor and the inner door latch.
12) Disconnect the motor and now everything will come out
You can now clean the main mechanism. I soaked mine in diesel for a couple of hours, scrubbing every now and then with a stiff brush. The actual door catch is coated in black plastic... if badly worn the whole mechanism will probably have to be replaced but it should be OK.
Once I am happy that most of the gunk is out, I give it a final quick soak and scrub in meths. Diesel leaves an oily residue which just attracts dust, and is why I do this last step. Allow to dry in the sun for a while. Then apply a little grease where you can see parts rotate. Too much and you will be doing the job again in 6 months.
Reassemble in reverse order. When finished make sure the mechanism operates correctly with the remote... i.e. the door actually locks rather than just closing and latching properly.
