I have the hotline fix document, if anyone is interested I can send it to you. It has 3 pages with pictures, cant post it on an open forum though.

- Hotline fix NM27-002
Seems like in OZ if you complained enough they would replace the companion shaft with the upgraded units and even the diff for free if it was also damaged.

OK feedback time.
I picked the shafts up yesterday at mitsusbishi and fitted them tonight with new seals and oil.
It was a bit of a fiddle and I got very dirty as the whole underside of the car is really thoroughly covered in about 2-3 liters of leaked out diff oil, tried to clean most of it up with a rag, but I think I need to have the car steam cleaned soon before it gets gunked up with dust.
The old shafts really came out easily, light tug and out they fell, however the new ones I really battled to get in. I needed to get a timber 75x50mm purlin to knock it in square to the diff opening with a rubber mallet from the wheel hub side, elbow grease wasn't enough to push them in... Oils Seals were a pain to get out as well, but new ones went in relatively easily with grease smeared on the outside to help them in. I also had to clean the shaft up, they had a sticky protective coating on them to prevent corrosion, acetone did the job well. I then also applied some grease to the machined shaft surfaces to help ease it in and help the oil seal work.
Filled up with just over 1.5liters of shell 80w90 gl5 axle oil, and all seems good. Will do a run to Kleinmond this weekend to do a rest if all holds up.

I still have the old two shafts if anyone is interested in having them (for free) and machined to the larger spring clip size. You just need get the clips from mitsusbishi, 21 working days.
Ie. Groove made larger from 2mm to 2.3mm in size.
Wish I had done it sooner.

Hi guys,
Maybe one of the "slim manne" can explain something to me: How is it possible for a companion shaft - read side shaft - to pull out of the diff if the bushes on the lower and upper control arms are in good nick? To pull out of the circlip groove there must be outward movement in either the top or lower or both arms!! If there is a lot of play - and 10 to 15 mm is a lot of play in any suspension - then surely the driver should be able to pick up the movement in the bad handling of the car.
Only asking.

Hi cloyd.
Reading between the lines and theories during online research, folks recon that excessive negative camber is the reason that they pull out. So when the van is loaded and suspension bottoms out going over bumps the camber is negative enough for them to dislocate the spring clip and move out of the diff.
I don't think it has to the with play on the bushes.
A service advisor at mitsusbishi paarden island advised to set the rear camber at a higher positive value than standard when having the wheels aligned, will help somewhat.

Nick,
Thanks for the info. I shall keep it in mind when my Pajero next goes in for it's next caster camber and toe-in check.

Many thanks for the shafts Nick, I'll get the grooves machined and fit them when I do the CVs.

No problem - nice meeting you and thank you very much for the beers, they went down a treat! I will still get back to you on the part number for the upgraded circlip only, unfortunately I have been a bit busy with my van in the sick-bay
