Sorry - I only saw your Gen 3. You are right - the rims of the Gen2 and Gen2.5 are the same, and yours are the OME for the 97 Gen2.

My only opinion regarding the heavy consumption is speeding. I have a manual and by dropping to 100km/h max I do 6,5 km/l and at 120 only about 5 km/l.

I also have a manual, and at 100-110 I get at least 7, and at 120 I get 5.5. And I am not too caring to "put foot" when I can!

My previous auto was about 15% heavier on fuel. But also had more km on the clock (thus more horses got away).

Bottom line - the petrol models are heavy on fuel!

I havelearned in the brief time of my 3.2 ownership that the following plays a huge role in the 3.2 Di-D consumption

acceleration rate
cruising speed
tyre pressures
500ppm seems to be more economical on pre 2004 models.

is it a Automatic?

My mom drives a LWB auto and she drives 90% in town and only gets about 7.5 to 8km/l. but that was after she changed her driving style. she used to floor it when the robot turned green so her rate of acceleration up to 60 was like a F1 driver, needless to say she only managed to get about 5 to 6km/l her worst was 4.0km/l.

Yeepers that is heavy! I get 6km/l when I do 110-120km/h with my 1,8 ton Xplorer on tow and fully loaded for overlanding on a nice open stretch of road, so you should be getting a lot better! This is with my 2001 3.2Did manual LWB.

Maybe you must check more regularly and get a good average figure and try adjusting driving style slightly as suggested as a start and see if it makes a marked difference. What does your temp gauge do? Is it at normal opperating temp? Might be that your car runs too cold and never get to optimal operating temp.

That is heavy! I have a 2006 LWB 3.2 DiD GLX Automatic and I never get below 8km/l in town. I don't really drive slowly, but I also hardly ever gun it. My average in town is 8.4km/l. On the open road at 120 - 130km/h I usually get between 10 - 11 km/l.

I haven't logged many miles yet. An overfill can adversely affect the reading on such short mileage - the difference between first click and full to the brim is quite a few litres - the more the mileage the less percentage that difference is full filling becomes. Over time it will come down. The ecu needs to adapt to the recently deleted catalytic converter and new BFG tyres that are slightly larger than the previous maxtrek - even though they are same spec. I'm considering a battery disconnect for ecu reset.

Current tank is not even halfway and it's done over 300km already. Will fill up over the weekend and see what happens.

Before fuelly I averaged about 11.9l/100km.

Then again I am still young and used to own a passat 1.8T before my Gen3 so I do have a heavy foot sometimes. (More often than not - but at the current price of diesel I'm quickly calming down)

On the other hand most of my latest fill ups has been sasol 50ppm and the VW forum guys reckon it is the least economical fuel to use. I will use 500ppm of something else next time and see what happens.
