Start with the basics.
replace thermostat, and cap with original mitsu ones.
Replace the heater core - it is a real pain in the proverbial - I won't be happy with a flush - just MHO.

Hi again
Okay, replaced ALL the pipes now and she is running fine!
The heater is still not working but they assure me it's not the core?? not entirely confident about this.
Any way, we are looking at a trip into Nam through Bots early in the new year.
With the 253 000km on the clock, what should I be looking out for before going and what should I be taking with??
really don't want to get broken down in the middle of no where with my family.

Honestly it is a job I wouldn't want to do either.
If you are taking it to a workshop, tell them that it is blowing pipes - NOTHING more.
They then diagnose and fix the problem. If something goes wrong again it is on their heads.
A simple at home test is to remove the pipes from the firewall in the engine bay and get a hose to spray water into one of those pipes. It should feel like a small restriction but if there is a lot of restriction then you know the heater core is blocked.
BTW : Did you have a compression test done?

Hi
Yes I had the compression test and the block test done, both came back Okay. (Still thinking of taking it to someone else for a second opinion)
Just came back from lunch, and low and behold she heated up again. No burst pipe or leaking water. This after a 1000km of trouble free driving....
I did notice the water coming out of the radiator is a rusty brown colour. Does this mean carbon in the water???

Nope. That is a sign of rust that can become dislodged and block your heater core.
Your problem is now one of 3 things.
1. The heater core is blocked
2. The water pump impeller isn't turning.
3. Radiator blocked

In my limited knowledge I was also worried about the radiator.
Another thing that bothers me, the Pajero has twoo fans in the front, I pressume the one in the front is an electrical one, and the other theone with the magnet. Which does what exactly??

Ok cool. Because I have never heard of a magnet fan and generally pajero's have mechanical viscous fans AFAIK.

That's the word i was looking, Viscous.
I presume this is the one at the engine and not in front of the radiator??
