hi guys,
i sent my vehicle to mits due to the problem getting worse (asc on engine management lights on). the problem got progressively worse. mits identified - airflow meter faulty... wanted app. R6000 for it (had stock by the way . went to scarp yard and purchased one for R1500. installed - and WOW . performance better than ever, but.. the lights still come on after a while ... read somewhere in forum au that the common rail on the older paj's does give blockage problems. i will open up, clean, and advise.... i will be gratefull if someone can advise how to remove - gasket etc.? please? Paj forever...

i actually removed about 2 table spoons of this gunk.

where would this come from? could it be 2so? how does the rest of the sytem look? cold the exhaust manifold look similar?

advice please?

i will replace the map sensor on saturday - i hope that it is this that is faulty?

That black goo is carbon. 2SO will actually reduce the speed with which it builds up.

When do the lights come on, under acceleration or idling? I adjusted my throttle flap (incorrectly I found out) trying to solve a hard hot engine starting problem, and it threw a CEL with skid & traction control lights flashing during idling in traffic one morning... My heart nearly stopped as I was thought it was the injector pump giving in!

I did the DIY error code check and thats how I found out that my adjustment of the throttle flap was the problem.

9 out of 10 days. on a cold start, the asc and engine management lights are OFF. when the engine is hot +/- after 30 min drive, either the engine management light or the asc light comes on. after a while longer, both lights will be on. performance WAS sluggish whilst these lights were off, and became progresively worse over a time span of 1 year. when the asc light comes on, the vehicle comes alive. i did replace the MAF sensor, and the problem of sluggishness no longer exist. i have also found that when you pull the plug on the MAP sensor (which goes to the exhaust manifold), the asc light comes on. thus my question, and looking at the above pic, could there be a restriction in the exhaust manifold? i would just like to get rid of this bug

Hi Deon

The MAP sensor monitors the Manifold Absolute Pressure, and it measures the pressure in the intake manifold, not the exhaust. I am sure the Gen 4 DiD also has a O2 sensor(Lambda) in the exhaust for the closed loop monitoring for the fuelling of the motor.

From what you describe it seem like it throws the CEL (Check Engine Light) when the motor is at operating temperature, try the DIY error code as shown in my post above and report back which codes it it showing? If there are too many, try disconnecting the battery for more than 30 minutes to clear them and drive until the CEL shows and do the test again.

The exhaust could be restricted by a blocked CAT or DPF, not sure if the Gen 4 in south africa has a DPF?? Also you intake manifold could be gunked up be the combination of the EGR system and the positive crankcase ventilation system spewing oily gasses into the air-intake. These two combine in the intake manifold and deposit the type gunk you removed in you earlier post -could not clearly see what part it was you removed to clean out?

As far as I know the gen4 up to now in SA is still without DPF. Would be interesting to get the codes spat out. I also am leaning towards something in exhaust system being blocked or the intake manifold gunked up with soot. Can it not also be the idle control valve(I think that is what it is called) stuck as described by 4EPikanini somewhere and shown in a Youtube video?

well, after cleaning the thingemebob , changing the MAF sensor, changing the MAP sensor..... my face says it all.... must say, mits pointed me in the right direction - thanks mitsu.

i will NEVER buy anything else than paj. thinking of retiring in about 5 years - will buy my LAST paj before then.

Will this remedial apply on the Gen 4 3.8 V6
