Yo! How about an update?
Have you taken her around the block with the new GTO engine?

Hi All in the pajero community.
Well I must say its been about 2 months now of driving, and not without having to sort out a few things. I developed a knock, where the motor was touching the firewall so had to revisit the placement. This meant moving the motor an additional 10mm forward and then offcourse adjusting the lengths of the propsahfts and rebalancing. Then had developed a bad noise on decelleration from the gearbox. Ended up being the transfer case that I have not yet repaired.
However I am sure that you all want to know how it goes....Well this thing is not for the faint hearted, it accelerates like a bat out of hell, and with the Air shocks still in place it lifts the bonnet quite severely when planting the pedal, tyres also let themselves be heard, and the exhaust note is to die for. Low end power is immense and I am sure that when I take it to do some serious offroad it will do the trick, however it revs like a beast all the way to 7000 without feeling laboured, and just keeps pulling all the way. on sand roads I think I now know what it feels like to be a group rally driver with only your personal ability that holds you back, and your fear or the lack thereoff, with the wheels seldom having positive traction with 165kw pumping the Gen 2 shorty. I would love to see what the comparison is to the Evo which I know has more KW but when I test drove one last year it was not as wild as the GTO motor, with a more passive power delivery. Another thing I want done is to take the car to Spittronnicz in Pta so that they can map it properly on a Dyno, Leon and his team has done well without a dyno but the car is very heavy on petrol, driving as passively as you like. The internet (wikipedia) showed that the old 3.0V6 uses 14l per 100km and the GTO 12l per 100km, however my Green mamba is now more thirsty than ever, I get about 6km on a L...OUCH!
Another thing is I would love to know if I am the 1st to have done this conversion successfully, but I guess I will never know.
Anyhow I am taking photo's this weekend of the final engine bay and will try to get as many angles and detail in as possible.
Bee good, if not be good at it!!!!!

Hi Steve
I have a 1992 SWB Pajero(Jap spec) among my collection of Pajero's.She used to be a 4D56 turbo intercooled but i sold the motor as soon as i could as i am no fan at all of the 2.5 diesel time bombl! The parked up Pajero's in my yard are 80% 4D56 engined and needless to say non runners....!
I bought a stripped down Mitsubihi GTO Twin Turbo 3000 a while ago(two or three years back) just for the motor. The car had all the running gear still intact which made it a perfect donor!I have a 1990 SWB V6 6G72 as my daily runner. After scratching around in my spare parts a bit i got the crazy idea to shove the GTO motor into my Pajero!I mean, why not,it is a 6G72 block....!
To make a long story short: I decided to put the GTO motor into my 1992 Pajero SWB as the 1990 one had a bit of rust showing up and the paintwork is not that flash anymore.I had another type of Mitsubishi motor that i used the sump and intake manifolds etc off. With a few mods it fits perfectly!I obviously do not want to give away too many secrets at this stage...!I guess you are the first guy to put a normally aspirated GTO motor into a Pajero....so that will make me the first guy to put a twin turbo GTO motor into a Pajero!
I will put up some pics etc as soon as i am back home again,in a few months time.I have not certified any of the modifications yet and still need to get it "legal" but that won't be a major problem.Needless to say that with 200+ hp she is one quick Pajero! The brakes will have to be looked at very soon!
Should anyone need smaller parts for older Pajero's feel free to contact me as i have quite a collection going on.I am more than willing to send them to Africa or where ever they are wanted...!
Kind regards
Johan (boerkie)

Johan,
Welcome!
Please tell us more about your collection of Pajero's. Eish - seems we have an advanced case of "Pajeroholism" here.
Please tell us about the progress with the transplant.

Hi Johan,
I would live to see the photo's because fitting the GTO turbo motor is not as easy as one thinks and a straight fit is not possible with the Turbo's in their std positioning (Trust me we tried to test fit one as this was my ideal), stearing, A/C etc are all in the way not to mention the space you have available in the pajero, but anything is possible but with some serious mods so that you dont loose the functionality of all the accesories (A/C, power stearing etc). do please share the pics, I am now more than curious.
Glad to see there are otheres as crazy as me to try the impossible!
Fellow Pajero nut...
