Its been a while since I did any work to my pajie, I was having withdrawal symptoms

so I stopped off at barnetts spares in stikland yesterday to see if I could find some rear plastic bumpers that I damaged a few months ago when I tried to do the "geut" at the top of matroosberg damaging my bumpers somewhat...

- Right rear bumper

- Left rear bumper
I found two reasonable condition bumpers I need to have resprayed and then I can fit them for, they cost me R 600 for both. I will probably fit them later this month once re-sprayed.

- (Sort of New) Bumper
While I was there I found a 2004 3.2 did SWB which was totalled with the on board computer still inside. I bought it for R 850.00 and fitted it, it works seamlessly and is much nicer than the original black & white LCD that came with my 2000 model Pajero.

- New diplay
It has compass, barometer, and has much more info that can be displayed simultaneously. I think it is a nice upgrade, and now I can fit an aftermaket MP3 radio and not lose fuel consumption and range funtionality as the display button is on the unit itself.

- Old unit
I still have the old unit which I fixed and is working 100% as per a previous post to sort out the loose solder connections which caused loss of pixels and time. Free to a good home, PM me if you are interested!
PS. I also have a OEM mitsu bashplate lying around. Good condition, I replaced it with a 4mm one. Also free to a good home.

Mmmm. You have me thinking now. Never a good thing
Wonder where I can get a 2004 center display. That upgrade is great!
Was it just a simple plug and play affair?

Yes, took me all of 10 mins to do the swap, two screws above radio and pull off dash surround and simple swap the two units out.

Hi Nick,
I would love to take your old display off your hands, We are just away for a week or so still and will send you a PM.
Thanks for sharing your feedback, I have to get my bumpers sprayed as well still so will be nice how much it costs.
Cheers
David

Nick, great post - thank you. When I still had my 2000 DiD I enquired at the dealers about the possibility of upgrading the dash display. "No, never... different wiring loom" and all that rubbish. Worst is: I actually believed them
Cats, the 2003 display is colour as opposed to the blue-grey display on the later models.

On Saturday morning - after watching the F1 qually session - I pulled the Pajero out of hibernation and washed the big old fire engine. Then came the Rally wax. Wow, there is so much metal sheeting on that body, my hands are still sore. All the little scratches are gone and the car is really nice and shiny again. No red colouring came off onto the polish cloth, does that mean that the paintwork is still in good nick or does it mean I didn't rub hard enough.
I found a new home for the (unwanted) RunX, so the Pajero will now revert to the position of personal daily transport again.

Roelf, if red comes off onto the polishing cloth it means you have rubbed right through the clear coat.
The red oxidised paint you get off older faded paint is usually from non metallic paint. Metallic paint has a clear coat over the colour.
If you have the time, the will power and strenth try cleaning the car with a clay bar first , then polishing.
Google clay bar, it is a tiring process but 'plucks' all the impurities that settle on the paintwork and leaves the surface super smooth, it then needs to be polished.

I tripped over a car wash in Jhb a few years ago. They offered the clay bar treatment, but wanted the car for a full day. The owner at the wash shop really recommended the treatment - I will Google and then sit and think about the sweat
