Re: What have you done to your Pajero today?

I was quite busy this weekend, I did a front left upper ball joint as there was some play, I replaced the rear brake pads as they were shuddering due to a seized guide pin causing the pad to wear off skew, and a starter motor solenoid...
The solenoid was a tad trickier than anticipated due to the aftermarket unit having to be rotated 180° and the lug extended with some 4mm^2 wiring... I almost burnt the coil out before I figured out my mistake, it was by that stage too hot to hold by hand...

The Mitsubishi solenoid and the "generic".

Notice the two big terminals are differently linked to coil inside. The lug on the OEM solenoid sits outboard and the generic sits inboard when fitted to the starter motor, thus I had to extend it to reach the loom connection without shorting the big terminal out that is supplied from the battery positive.

Mitsubishi quoted me R1300 for a new solenoid, I almost fell off my chair... I can't believe they charge that much for a part that is so cheap to manufacture. You can buy a brand new starter for that price, albeit not from the agents.
I found a solenoid at http://www.Trysome.cc
They are auto electrical specialists, for R211. It fits mazda, Hyundai, and some mitsubishi models.
