Ralf wrote:Hi all,

Would really liked to have taken part in the GTG - some good memories of the Atlantis GTG last year.

But .... we will be heading up to the Kgalagadi again on the 21st :D , so will not be able to make it! Spending a week there and will be doing the Nossob - TR trail. I guess that's a worthy alternative .... ;)

Enjoy!!
A very worthy alternative indeed. It's one of the areas to visit in my ever growing bucket list.

Enjoy, travel safe, and most important of all, bring back lots of pictures!

Just a few admin things.

Cost of the trail is R150/vehicle.

If you want to stay for braai, you have to bring your own wood & braai grids.

There is a 25sqm shade sail at the picnic area. I've got a 3mx3m gazebo that I'll bring along just in case it is needed.

For some more info & pics, you can have a look at http://www.honingklip4x4.co.za.

I received the attached pics from Richard this morning.

I'm using this trip as prep to the Richtersveld the following week.

Jaco, is Richard guiding us? Jonathan did the trail last weekend but is probably not going to want to lead.

Also, we need to know the radio situation. I have a 29 and 2 VHF

Richard said that he could do the "fun stuff" with us, but he won't be able to join us for the entire route. For the 2nd half (the easy, scenic part according to Richard) of the trail we will be on our own.

I don't have a radio.

Is it just me ? I cannot wait anymore. My last outing was to Damon last year. On the way home yesterday I took a skelm drive on the riverbank to see if the short stick is still operational and ended up recovering a Hilux :D

What time do you guys want to start? Are we stopping along the road for a breakfast? Grid and wood is packed, the beers were chilled but I will have to replace them AGAIN ...

PS I have 29Mhz and VHF and also 2 of those cheapies which I will bring along. They are not completely useless

Hi jbeez, you're definately overdue for an outing.

Haven't thought much about the time, but would say the earlier the better. Think it would be nice if we meet somewhere on the road there for breakfast and drive through together. I don't really know the area that well, does anyone have suggestions for a good place to meet?

PS What happened with the Hilux?

Jaco,

These type of threads get very long, and the info and arrangements change as it develops.

I suggest
  • you update the very first post from time to time (with a date of the edit) to inform / confirm the arrangements.
  • Amend your original post to confirm date and time, eg "Slaapstad GTG on 21st March at ......"

How about we meet at the Peregrine Farm Stall just outside Grabouw? It's about halfway between Somerset West and Honingklip (26km from S-W and 20km from Honingklip according to T4A).

Can arrive from say 8 to 8:30 (they open 07:30 according to their website), have coffee or breakfast if you want, and if we leave 8:45 we can be at the farm 9:15ish.

See you at Peregrine around 8:00. What channel will we be using on the 28Mhz?

Going to be interesting if the promised rain arrives over weekend
