Re: BFG A/T chipping :(
What outcome are you hoping for?
An apology from Michelin? That won't happen - they have closed the case!
What else?

Nobody argues about the validity of your case, read Simon's advice again.
You have everybody's support. That does unfortunately does not mean you are going to win against Michelin.

Pursuing this further won't get you more support.
Since TWT gave you a set of tyres, keeping on with this could be deemed to be malicious persecution / harassment.

Re: BFG A/T chipping :(
Hmmmm, this thread has made me seriaaaasly worried :o

Went and inspected all four of my BFG's. All OK with mine :P
I've had them on for just over a year and have covered around 30,000Km and I can find only one edge that looks chipped off.

I do however still love these tires, but do not like with the report back I have read here.

The only thing is that I doubt that these tires will last 80,000Km :? Judging by the wear, I reckon to be lucky at 60k Km.
Re: BFG A/T chipping :(
I still think that the BFG AT is a better tire compared to the Bridgestone AT ;)
(just to stir the pot  )
Re: BFG A/T chipping :(
After reading all of the tread, I went to check my wheels. I have BF Goodrich Rugged Terrain’s on all 4 wheels. The front tyres are fine, but the rears show significant cracking and chipping. Mitso claim they rotate the tyres every service, but varying tread depth front to back put the lie to this. I engage 4x4 high when travelling dirt roads so in theory the damage should be evenly spread. This got me pondering. Recommended tyre pressure high speed and laden is 2.6 on the LWB. Lot of the gravel roads are “temporary” (read semi permanent) connections between tar roads while road improvements are being contemplated. So I’m probably doing the gravel road at much higher speed then I would be doing on a “scenic” dirt road. The tyres would be hot from doing 140kph for hour or 2 before hitting the gravel at 60 to 90. Yes, I know, but this is just keeping up with the rest of the traffic. There is nothing like a big side tipper interlink up your rear to improve your driving skills!
It seems the tyres don’t like the tar, dirt, tar transitions and travelling gravel roads at any kind of speed.
As for stirring, I was forced to fit 2 Dunlop’s during a trip to Namibia. Lots of lateral movement across the blocks of the tyre tread!
If you can feel the grass between your toe's, your flying too low!

Re: BFG A/T chipping :(
I thought it educational to give you an update on the 265/70/16 BFG A/T on my 2001 Mitsubishi Pajero.

Since TWT replaced my BFG AT with Hankook AT (TWT has all my praise in this issue for dealing with me professionally, courteously and fairly) I have done 6000km under identical conditions, even recovering tractors with a couple of trails thrown in. Regularly being slightly under inflated for trails and over inflated (2.5 bar) for long distance economy where the BFG was always at 2bar except for doing trails.

I'm not surprised to report that the hankooks show NO signs whatsoever of behaving like the "premium" BFG brand.

Re: BFG A/T chipping :(
On my 2010 lwb 3.2 DiD i changed from the factory fitted Geolanders to my current BFG AT's at 40000km, mainly because i was getting regular punctures travelling on building sites, picking up nails, and was going for something with a thicker sidewall.

The BFG' s chipped in a similar fasion to yours, but i did not have another flat tyre up till now, with 108000 ( 68000 km travelled ) on the clock. During the last rotation and balance, TWT removed 3 of 4 inch nails from the tyres. - but they did not loose air!

The chipping has stabilised now, without any noticeable further deterioration. I think i will stick with the devil i know - and no punctures ;-)

Let us know how many km you get on the new tyres.

Re: BFG A/T chipping :(
Hi

A bit late on this, but here are my thoughts......

Glad you got sorted by TWT.

Got the Pajie with BFG A/T on. Have done about 55 000 km's on them and the chipping is bad. Everybody says these as good tyres, but I have my doubts. Some places there are chunks out of the rubber. Bad gravel roads tend to work them out.

They are the worst in wet and wet gravel / mud.

I do mostly tar (or whatever), BUT if I go offroad, I don't want to wonder where I am going.

My next set will definitely be Hankook Muds.

Just the size I still need to get around. Either 265/75/16 or 285/75/16.
