Hi Cats,

Let me tell you when the car eventually comes back from AB it will be better than ever - that's my experience. And you have a full year guarantee. Judging from the quote I am sure the job entails a complete pump rebuild plus injector service. In my case it also included a tappet service and timing chain check. He also reconned my starter for which I was not charged additionally. With the pump being the most vulnerable part on these cars you can be rest assured that after this rebuild she will be fit for another 200000 odd kms. The price shock is a onetime thing and you will get over it, but the pleasure of driving the beast can continue for some years to come. Ask me I've been through the same thing a year ago.

I hear you guys but what are the kms on your vehicle's engines? Mine is on 300000km and I can't help wondering what the next thing might be.

Oh well. Let me fix it and see how I feel. Will probably get the Snoopster back next week. Just need to go break a few piggybanks. The rebuild is basically a complete pump overhaul with all parts replaced. Price does not include injectors but he reckons they still seem OK. Still toying with the idea of having them replaced as well while we are at it in any case.

Thanks for the input from everyone. Really very much appreciated as I must say that it has been emotional times.

Well Cats,

That is the same cost as 3 cambelt on my car and the same distance as 3 cambelt changes on my car.

I think if you could have avoided the break-down, then you would have felt completely different about this little financial hick-up

Cats, which one is yours? ARB bumper or not?

Cats,

I've just re-read my previous post - really poorly put :o

I meant to say:

Your repair cost is the same as my car's scheduled maintenance cost on cambelts alone. So don't feel too bad and don't blame poor old Snoopy too much ;)

Yes, I popped in to have Bradley check my car out as a precaution. I am on 208,000km and just needed to be sure she was fine. He did a complete Dyno test and he plugged in his diagnostic computer thingy and he gave her a clean bill of health. The bast part, he didn't even charge me a cent. I really was prepared to pay a small fee for the Dyno but he insisted. I hope he gets your car sorted out chop chop

He's probably making enough money out of me already so can do a few freebies for you okes with the "low mileage" vehicles.

Is the old lady at least under cover and looked after? You know what they say in Afrikaans "ver van jou goed naby aan jou skade!". I am worried about the old girl!

Can't wait to get the Snoopdog back but will probably only be able to pop in there Thursday or Friday. Although I am still in two minds as to keep or trade up to a newer model??

She is safely tucked away indoors, don't worry. Once you have her back and she is purring again I am sure you won't trade her in ;)

Hi CATS,

Newer model = more electronics = less maintainable from an owner's perspective?
And at least you know what has and hasn't been done on Snoopy.

I hope that, once you have collected her and got the whole lowdown from Bradley, you will be able to help us understand why she actually stopped. i.e. Why did she go almost straight from running smoothly to requiring a lowbed? And what more you could have done, if anything to 1. Prevent this happening or 2. At least have got her back home under her own steam.
