Yes. Bummer indeed. Somehow I dont think it is gasket, unless it is between oil and cylinder. It was blowing oil smoke and used oil as well plus only ran on 3 cylinders.

Need to open it up to determine but at this stage considering some other options as well. Like burning it [WHITE SMILING FACE]

Just joking.

Can't help but think some injector related fueling problem caused this current issue.

I hear you and agree but how and at what cost does one determine this? In the end it still leaves me with the bill and a stuffed motor :-(

Ah well - life goes on and the sun still shines. It can only get better from here - Right? :-)

Will do some serious soul searching over the weekend as well as number crunching to decide what I am gonna do. Now where is that crystal ball of mine?

This is not scientific, but gut feel it seems to me that we are seeing multiple such instances recently. I think Entabeni had something similar happen.

I guess we will have to wait and see what is found once the head is off.

We know that CATS has been careful in terms of injector service and this has happened after a new / refurbed injector pump professionally installed. And AFAIK CATS also has a MadMan EGT etc monitor, so he would have picked up if EGTs were high.

It can't just be mileage - lots of Gen3s are well past Snoopy's mileage.

Questions start running through my head:
Diesel characteristics
Refurbed injectors vs. new injectors
Low speed operation for long durations in National Parks etc.

It would be interesting to get Alan Black's take on this.

Such bad luck - sorry to hear!

It cant be coincidence that this happened so close to the diesel pump issue... considering the mileage these engines give.

What is the highest your EGT ever goes?

Highest EGT went is around 580deg. Even when it lost power it was running around 385deg. I agree, can't be coincidence. But how does one proof anything like that? Still sitting with stuffed motor :-(

Some people said Alan Black is not the be all end all before I did the pump. Maybe they were right?

Thank for the condolences Lowrange. We will still do a trip with the Xplorers once I get this mess sorted. Might not be in Pajero though? Who knows?

CATS - those EGTs seem too low. Where was it installed? Before or after the turbo intake?

Before the turbo on the manifold towards the EGR pipe. Might be slightly understated but still the norm of what I got over the last 150000kms or so since installed.

I think it is pretty accurate? Between 200degC and 450degC when worked and around 450-600degC when towing uphill. I set it at 700degC max to raise alarm which it never ever got to.
