Selective insurance
I spotted an insurance discussion on another ;) forum and it made me think about my recent insurance cancellation on the pajero.

I have removed my pajero from my insurance as it stands for weeks on end and barely ever gets used. I save R600 / month by not insuring it.

I don't plan on driving it without insurance - I use a second insured vehicle at the moment.

Now the question on the table is......

I plan to take the pajero on holiday so I need insurance then.

Can I get an decent insurance that will cover me for the couple of weeks in the year that I plan on using it for trips?

Maybe even just a third party fire and theft for short trips in town to keep the parts oiled up. I don't mind bumps and scratches on the car - it will take a lot to be written off - but I don't want to pay someone else or have someone else pay for my mistake.

What is 3rd party fire and theft premiums these days?

Hi 4eP

I know there is an insurer out there that charges you per km traveled, maybe look into that...

Mercurius Motors lent me a Triton for a week when they where just launched, the only requirement was that I had to have it insured for that time. So I called my broker and they just added it to my current insurance (Mutual and Federal) for the time that I had it and as I remember it wasn’t expensive at all, maybe R300.00

Jip, I have seen that guy on the TV ad running around with his tape measure - can't remember the company's name. It is a "pay as you go" plan.
Re: Selective insurance
See you are inquiring about selective insurance. I make use of the pay-as-you-drive system. It is availably from Hollard Insurance. Premiums on my Jeep Grand Cherokee shrunk from R995 to R420 (depending on distance). On the Gen3 Pajero I chose a different plan and pay R600 odd. But it is not for free when you drive - main reasons being that they install a tracker which they have to recover the cost from you.

I would maybe phone tough stuff - I have never used them but see alot of great reports from them - they specialize in 4x4 / off road // trip insurance.

You are welcome to phone me for advise on Hollard Pay as you drive.
