Pajero 3.2 did - Intercooler problems
Hi,

Although joined a while back this is my first question on the forum. I also asked the question on 4x4Com, so sorry for the duplication!

Since i bought my gen 3 about a year ago i've havn't been too happy with the power and fuel consumption, especially when towing.

On Sunday i removed my intercooler protection plate so that i could have a propper one made up only to find that my intercooler was already damaged. This would have a big impact on performance when loosing pressure from the turbo right?

It was hit from the bottom and damaged the bottom row of fins as well as the tank on the outlet side. It only seemed to be leaking through the crack in the tank.

In stead if trying to fix it myself with epoxy i took it to Silverton Radiators in Bellville who has just informed me that they have burnt a bigger hole in it when trying to fix it!

Has anyone fitted an aftermarket intercooler to their Gen 3 before? The space seems to be a bit limited where the original one sits.

Can one just fit a different size intercooler or does the turbo boost have to be adjusted accordingly.?

The stealer wants R6000 for a new one.

I urgently need a solution because i'm going up the West Coast this weekend. I will see how bad the damage is when i go fetch it this afternoon, perhaps i can still do a temporary fix for the weekend.

Any advise appreciated.

Alten, call Steve's Auto Clinic and/or Dastek - they fit aftermarket intercoolers AFAIK and should be able to give you some direction. Also try Cirrus Coolers.

The Di-D's inter cooler is a high-tech part.

If you install an after-market one, make sure it has the same rating (not size). It might mean that it is physically larger than the Mitsu part.

Have you tried Gert / martin at Parthunt in Pretoria for a 2nd hand one?

Hi Alten

I have just replaced mine with a 2 weeks ago as I also had a damanged one. View link below for my comments

I know there is one at George motor spares for R850. I had them pressure test this one about 1 month ago as there was a mark on it, but they said that there was no leakage.

Contact details for wreckers on the vehicles are wreckers comments

Hope this helps
