Rear brake discs and shocks shot at 20 000kms?!

My 3 month old Pajero Sport this week had its 20 000km service. The dealer confirmed my concerns that the rear shocks were leaking oil and that the rear brake pads needed replacing. Apparently the front brake pads are almost new!
There are no stock of either shocks or pads available and the dealer said that they have never had to replace these items on a Sport - or any other Pajero at such low kms.
The Sport has not had a tough life, mostly travelling long distances We did however play in a river bed in Botswana when she was still fairly new, but she was checked out by the same dealer after that and they found no problems.
Could there be a connection with something broken that caused the other to fail?
