Pajero rim offset?
Anyone know what the offset on the rim below is? It's a Paj rim as far as I know.

My Triton's rims are -38mm and I need -38mm rims to run 255/85R16 or 285/75R16. Most 16" rims are zero offset and they just don't work with 33" tyres on the Triton.

Thanks!

Re: Pajero rim offset?
Hi Barto,
That is indeed a 16" Paj rim from a Gen 3. The SA spec GLS had those from launch in 2000 until the facelift in 2003.

If I recall correctly the offset is +40mm (i.e. the rim mounting face is 40mm outboard of the tyre centerline), so it should be perfect for your Triton (I assume you meant that the Triton offset is +38mm?).

You are right that aftermarket rims with large offsets are hard to get locally.

Yip, you're right, the Triton rims are +38mm.

I'm going to try and get a set of those paj rims. Should look good on the Triton with 255/85R16 muds.

I have a set of 5 of those rims lying in my garage. Haven't made up my mind what to do with them yet, but might be a starting point to a possible deal? I think there was a set like them on the for sale section as well. Not sure if still available.

Re: Pajero rim offset?
Let me know CATS. I've found a set for R2000, but the oke is in Nelspruit and I don't know him. I don't like paying the money into someone's account without even knowing if he actually has a set of rims like that.
Re: Pajero rim offset?
Hi Barto,

I checked in the workshop manual today. The Paj rims are actually 46mm offset, not 40mm like I said  . This would mean that if you were to fit the 255/85R16 tyres on the Paj rims to the Triton that the outside edge of the new tyres would nominally run 3mm narrower each side than the original 245/70R16s, while the inside edge would run nominally 13mm inboard of the original tyres each side . I am not sure whether this will cause issues with the tyres touching? The tread width would obviously be 8mm narrower each side than with the original rims and tyres.

With the 285/75R16s on the Paj rims, the outside edge runs 12mm outboard of the standard tyres, while the inside edge ends up 28mm inboard of the originals, which seems a little much.

Re: Pajero rim offset?
With the mudflap removed, 285's fit on the Triton with stock suspension. I posted a thread about this on 4x4comm with step by step pics. With the narrower 255's it shouldn't be a problem, although the extra bit of diameter over the 285's might require some plastic trimming, but I'm not phased by that. I would prefer 285's, but a friend of mine has a set of low mileage 255's he doesn't want any more, at a good price.

Re: Pajero rim offset?
One more very important thing, are those rims 7J?
Re: Pajero rim offset?
If the 285s work on the standard setup, then I am pretty sure the 255s will be OK on the Paj rims; the difference in radius between a 285/75R16 and a 255/85R16 is really small (nominally only 3mm) and the inside edge of the 255s would still be outboard of where the 285s had been on the Triton rims by about 7mm.

The inside edge of the 285s on the Paj rims would sit 8mm inboard of where it would have been on the Triton rims, so I am not so sure about the remaining clearance with this option.

Oh and yes, the Paj rims are 7JJ with six lug holes on a 139.7mm PCD, just like the Triton rims.

By the way, there is another style of Gen 3 Pajero 16" rim that was used only for a short while locally after the 2003 facelift and before the 2004 facelift that introduced the 17" rims. These are the ones that I have on my Paj (see picture below) and they are dimensionally identical to the earlier ones like in your picture.
