4x4 not engaging on Gen 3

Hello everyone,
I am new on this forum. I bought a 2000 or 2001 Gen 3 Pajero 3.5 V6 LWB a couple weeks ago and then found this Forum and decided to join. I am based in JHB. i bought the vehicle for its size and reliability.
The reason for this post is that i tried to engage 4wd the other day and found that it is not engaging. When I shift the lever into 4H, the green indicator lights flash for a bit, then go solid for a short while and then after a minute or so green lights go off and the C/D light flashes orange.
I found a troubleshooting guide from an Australian forum and started to check all the items. I jacked up the vehicle and checked if the actuator shaft was moving and it was not. I also checked the solenoids (blue and yellow dots) and they seem to be working but noticed on one of them that the rubber hose looked like it had "melted" onto the connector and when I tried to remove it the connector broke! There is another connector on the top of the solenoid, will this do the same job if i block the broken one?
Is there a common fault with this system that i should look for or which workshop in the JHB area would you recommend to me to check the 4wd system. Also, where can i get a replacement solenoid?
Thanks in advance,
Peter.
