Heya folks

So, I got part A into slot B and have bought a Pajero, after about 5 weeks of looking and testing 11 vehicles. I'm pretty stoked: it's a 1999 SWB 3.0 petrol 24v blister with only 122 000km on the clock, leaving plenty of space for me to play :)

Here's me lass:

Oh yes... I'm WildMedic, I'm in Cape Town, and I'm new but excited about all the new things to learn...

More pictures to follow ASAP

Welcome to the forum. You will love your pajero. Those are very reliable engines albeit a bit thirsty.

Not to put you off immediately but please look into the cambelt history on the vehicle. At that mileage it is often sold because the cambelt is overdue and the owner doesn't have the funds to get it sorted. If the cambelt breaks on those motors it can ruin the whole engine.

I would honestly have someone inspect the cambelt rather than go on the book entries and if it hasn't been done, then get it done ASAP.

Other than that you will have joy with the vehicle and that mileage on a pajero is classified as new.

Happy trucking! :D

Hi 4ePik,

Thanks for the advice. I've got a great mechanic (who owns Pajero's himself) who is looking after the vehicle. The cambelt service is due to be done when the vehicle goes in this week - this was factored into the purchase price.

Thanks for the welcome ;)

Welcome, and please show us those pics!

Also please tell us more about your mechanic. Everyone is looking for a competent and reasonable service supplier.
We have listed good service suppliers here: https://www.pajeroclub.co.za/forum/view ... =55&t=1481

Anton, I'll post full details after the service, but the gentleman has been looking after our family and business vehicles (no Pajero's yet) for many years and we have had consistently good, honest service and incredible value for money.

In addition to all this, he looked at 6 different potential purchases (all SWB Pajero's) that I brought around over the course of 5 weeks free of charge, often phoning the various dealers and service centers involved with the care of the vehicles off his own bat and once again without charge. Money can't buy good help like that - it inspires a lot of loyalty.

The company is Auto Repair Services in Lansdowne Road, Cape Town, which is a family run business. Head honcho (and good guy) is Geoff Broadley. Company tel 021 697 2624.
