Hi Guys,

I'm the proud owner of the above mentioned vehicle and I must say I love this car to bits! I bought it second hand in February this year and it has got 179000KM on it. I want to do an oil change some time on the gearbox as I don't think the previous owner have done it for a while. I'm not a mechanic by any means, but I can do the simple stuff like oil and filter changes, etc. My questions are:

1. How complicated would it be to do the job myself?
2. Is there filters in the gearbox that needs to be replaced at the same time?
3. What would be the best oil to use?

Oil changes are easy but automatic gearbox oil changes are tricky. Definitely not an average novice job.

I think it is a good idea to replace all "bodily fluids" when you get a "new" second hand car - too many guys out there does not realize the importance of oils replacement, and let their gearboxes and diffs suffer damage - which you are VERY likely to pick up when doing water crossings. And we do like to think our Pajero's can swim, don't we?

Look on the forum for oil suggestions. I am not aware of any oil filters on the gearbox or diff, but your local service agent will be able to give you the full spec of what is needed. I have been convinced to move to Caltex Delo 400 with my next oil change. There are some good suggestions of the oils for the gearbox and diffs here.

Oil-change is probably the simplest of maintenance tasks (save the gearbox, which is not that simple), but it is cruicial that you use the right materials and fill to the right levels.

Read up on the forum - there are tons of material on this topic.

While you are at it, check your coolant and brake fluids as well...
