Outer CV joint replacement

Got the boots torn and kept on putting off the replacement (still have the extra set of boots) until the dreaded cluck-cluck showed. With this I also got a weird wheel wobble and that prompted me to start a redo of the front suspension. Geared with enough info from Hbannink' posthttps://www.pajeroclub.co.za/forum/view ... =25&t=1274,I set of to the local spares dealers.

Apart from the no show at the local stealer , none of the spares suppliers could/would supply me with any parts. Got my backside in gear and went to Goede Hoop Onderdele http://www.gho.co.zain Brackenfell. What a pleasent suprise. Got everything I needed with a smile and at a good price too. They also stock the complete shaft as Mitsu does but will let it go for just under R1k.

Here is my list of goodies with partnumbers and prices:
Description Part # Price
Outer Tie Rod Ends (Pair) TR5557 R 111.19
Inner Tie Rod Ends (Pair) TR5556 R 184.23
Lower Ball Joint (Each) BJ1060 R 206.15
Lower Ball Joint (Each) BJ1060 R 206.15
Upper Ball Joint- Right (Each) BJ1073R R 163.52
Upper Ball Joint-Left (Each) BJ1073L R 163.52
CV Outer MTS Pajero/Colt U1F (Pair) GMS-3904 R 335.95

Sub R1 370.71
14 % R 191.90
Total R1 562.61

The Idler and Pitman Arms were fine and needed no replacement. While stripping we found the result of the wobble. A bearing on the right front inner shaft has disintegrated. Basically because the dustcover was not fitted properly and came loose and exposong the bearing. This according to the workshop manager. Mitsu does sell these as seperate parts and hopelfully this will be delivered this afternoon as promised.

Inner dust seal (5) R 41.00
Bearing (2) R 105.00
Outer Dust Cover (3) R 31.00
Right front Inner axle (Medium).JPG

The best quote in Paarl for Cv replacement was R1200/wheel. I thus decided to use the bit that was "saced" and ordered a replacement radiator from SR Radiators (021 862 5965).
Genuine - R 2860.00
Aftermarket R 1 350.00

All now that is left is to get everything fitted before Sunday's outing. It's been a while since I have doen any trips.

jbeez,

Thanks for the info.

Will you consider placing your parts supplier here: https://www.pajeroclub.co.za/forum/view ... =500#p8481 for future reference?

Thanks,
Anton

My 2001 Pajero 3.5 Gls SWB has started making cv joint noise at only 130 000km, probably the outer joints. I have been phoning around and cannot get them. Only the agents have the complete thing @ R3500 each!!!!!!!!!!
Can anybody help? Western Cape-Knysna. Please e-mail me at: mainstreetprop@mweb.co.za

Hi Eswan

Being a gen 3, the bearing is part of the complete hub and is sold as a sealed unit, hence the price tag attached. As to date, I do not know of anybody who has managed to replace only the bearing. Not the news you want to hear, sorry. Keep posted if you find a solution

Does anyone know what the spline count is on the outer cv joint for a 2001 3.5 SWB Auto? Apparantly there are 3 variations available, but they need the spline count - inside and outside.

I'm possibly going to be able to add to this thread. Doing the front right inner CV boot today I discovered what looks like my front right inner shaft bearing failed/is failing.

Part numbers

MR446902 for the complete kit
MB160662 for the bearing only
MB160948 for the dust boot only

Will phone for some prices tomorrow.

At least I'm familiar with the disassembly of how to get to it. :|

I suspect that's the whole assembly with shaft, flange, bearing and dust caps altogether.

so that would be R8300 per side for the parts....geesh not something you want to have to do too often that is for sure!

so are you then able to get just the dust cover and bearing and replae those individually or do they make you buy the whole thing?
