This may be quite dumb question but are the pajero gearboxes designed to change gears in order to keep egt at lower levels.
The reason I am asking is that, when I tow with my Pajero, especially uphill, i find that it does not always gear down when i would like it too, resulting in me putting foot a bit. I don't have an EGT guage in the Pajero but do in the Landy and know that this results in the EGT jumping quite rapidly - going up hills in gears that feel to low, especially when towing.
How do I control EGT with an auto box? (I know fitting a guage would be a good start) But driving the landy on a daily basis, which has a guage fitted, i think you develop a feel for how to drive to keep the EGT low and I find that an auto box does not always allow this.
