The Left hand side step has been damaged and the plastic cover has come off. Repair costs are excessive. Has anyone made or developed a side step come rock slider than can replace the originals. The single cab bakkies type may suffice. I personally believe one does not need the step for the whole distance. (Just big enough for small people to put a foot up) If there was something that had a small lip with the balance acting as a rock slider???
A picture or drawing would be great!! I would obviously have to disconnect the lights that are intergral to the side steps.

Good day Mike
This is a common problem on our Paj`s I had the same problem with my 2006.
the plastic component is quite weak, however the steel structure underneath is very strong. you can use this to build your own running boards, simply add a 40mm by 6mm thick angle iron to the leading edge of your frame, facing upwards, the add some aluminium checker plate to the top to form your step. you can also weld a jacking point to either end. look out for the back up your legs on departer!!
Alternate: Tough Stuff rock sliders, very similar in looks
