Pajero 1998 3.5 GLS Gen 2.5

When I drive solo, the vehicle is perfect, but as soon as I load the rear with camping equipment (chairs etc - not too heavy?) and hook up the caravan (±110 kg towball weight), the rear sags pretty much to such an extent that the headlights on dim actually blinds oncoming traffic!! Brights can be used to hunt Giraffe!!!!

Is there any adjustment that can be made to give more spring resistance in the rear without going for upgrades etc and not resulting in too hard a solo ride??

If so please advise me on a reliable and trustworthy supplier of such adjustment service in the Pretoria area.

Hi elu,

You must really try the air helpers at the back. I had the same problem and tried the air helpers. Problem solved. Once you laoded your car, just pump it up and off you go. I had mine fitted by LA Sport in Centurion at a price of approx R2500.

As soon as there is no laod, deflate it to .5 Bar and you car is normal again.

You will find as I have that after a while the rear goes completely "soft". I cannot even go over a speedhump at the same speed as with my little Honda platkar without the rear bottoming out completely. Finances for OME/Ironman is no there. Now looking at the other options.

1. Can you really test a set of 2nd hand coils? Is it worth it, even in the short run.

2. Can you fit Air helpers on the allready "soft" coils?

3. "Retension" - I already phoned Saayman's Springworks and got a guestimate of around R2k burt was told I'll be wasting my time and money. At that price I'll go for Air Helpers.

IS there any other options available?

The air-helpers are there to maintain your ride height when you load the vehicle, or when towing. I would not use them to compensate for worn springs during normal driving.

None the less, they are a GREAT investment for the right application.

I added spacers on top of my coils in the rear after mine also sagged a bit and the rear bumper got in harms way a few times. I will test it now when we going away at the end off the month.

Without going for upgrades the best is the air helpers. As pointed out they are there to compensate for extra load and not for sagging springs.
The other option is to go for a set of ome springs. These are progressive springs and become "harder" as the load increases. The dreawbach is that they will lift the rear of the vehicle as well and you will have to tweak the torsion bars in front to get the baby on an even keel again. As for resetting the original springs I would not even think of wasting my money on that. I have done this on a few occasions and in my experience it is a total waste of time

Hi all
This is my first post since joining the forum. The topic on OME sagging stirring a big concern regarding the product. I have bought 1999 Pajero 3.5 LWD about 2 years ago now just over the 300000 on the clock and still going strong. I found my self in a difficult scenario after reading some of the posts on the forum regarding upgrading on suspensions. I thinking of have mine done, my choice originally OME fill kid. Need help on to go for it or can someone advise on another option. Please help

I am one of the guys that did not find any joy in the OME. I had sagging problems. I had a complete set of coils custom made now for me. Unfortunatly can not comment yet. It is only installed now for two weeks. But for the price of R2600 Fitted its worth the try.
