A little disappointed

As I have to replace my January 2007 Gen 3 GLX with 135000km on the clock by June 2011, I have been shopping for a new Gen 4 GLX but am a little disappointed at the R170K (on average) being offered as a Trade-In. Do you think this is a realistic offer – perhaps I am being a little greedy?

Love to hear your opinions

Assuming it is in a good nick, Try selling it privately. You could start at ±R220K, but settle for not less than R190K.

These guys are keen to make all of their profit out of one car!

Dean,

Nothing is a better example of the supply and demand system of economy than trading in a car.

I recommend the following:
Have a look at the Autotrader website as well as any other sell4x4-type websites. This should give you an idea of what other people with similar cars expect to get for their's.
If the R170k looks too low, then stick yours in the Autotrader. Keep in mind that prospective private buyers can make use of P2P (person to person) financing. I sold my previous Pajero (2006 DiD GLS LWB) in that way.

There is a bit of bother with paperwork and AA certificates and stuff, but I found it a very agreeable way to sell a car.

Tonton and Roelf.

Thank you for the feedback and recommendations - I think trying to sell the Pajero in the Autotrader will be a good place to start and take it from there. Although the milage is a little high at 135000 km the car is in good condition and has never missed a dealer service so there is no chance I am going to simply "give it away" as a trade in. I am also not in a great hurry to sell as I only have to replace in or before June 2011.

Regards, Dean.
